Rice would be a better crop if the soil is too wet.  you are very smart Rice need permanently flooded fields. Dumb! Untill this quite dry period which we really needed there have been some, infact it would not supprise me in the least if some still were. Mostly in the SW of the country, also a bit in some area's of the SE. not sure about further north. Unfortunately it's worked differently in the south west, we have huge landslips eroding the coastline, Cornwall & Devon are crumbling away :(
