Poverty skyrockets across USA to highest levels since 1960s
In the mid-1960s, President Lyndon B. Johnson, that era's left-winger, was not content to merely fight a needless, pointless, misguided war in Vietnam. Ever the progressive, Johnson also wanted to fight a similar kind of aimless and unwinnable war in the United States, so he concocted a so-called "War on Poverty" that, over the next four decades, would see the country spend a staggering $14 trillion with zero return on the investment.

In fact, according to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau statistics, the number of Americans currently living at the poverty level is exactly what it was when Johnson began his "war" against it.

From The Associated Press:

As President Barack Obama began his second term in January, nearly 50 million Americans - one in six - were living below the income line that defines poverty, according to the bureau. A family of four that earns less than $23,021 a year is listed as living in poverty. The bureau said 20 percent of the country's children are poor.

Today's poverty is caused by - the sequester? In the years since the 1965 passage of legislation creating the modern-day welfare state and after implementing hundreds of "training" and "jobs" programs, hiring thousands of government employees and bureaucrats, spending hundreds of billions a year and trillions of taxpayer dollars over a generation, the country has nothing to show for it. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Nothing.

Obama's economic strategy is simple, if you can't raise everyone's standard of living, drag everyone down to the same low level...

They call it Communism...

Yea and Obama's brilliant plan to fight poverty is to allow more poor into the country?

Only a leftist could come up with such a plan and only sheep would follow it...

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure they started building ghetto housing back in the 40's. Of course, the savages immediately turned the new buildings into rat traps.

Blacks were always a problem, but Johnson started paying them to be a problem, which accelerated it a million percent.

On CNBC (market propaganda channel) Ben Stein, in one breath, stated that Budgetary Sequestration was a bad thing and should not be implimented; then, went on to say that the Obama administration was creating a huge debt that should not be allowed to continue.....quite frankly, this double talk is insane. The politicians and the FED RESERVE are infusing trillions to prop up the market and take care of the billionaires. Assisting the market should not be confused with assisting the economy.....if anything, we need substantial cuts; far deeper than the meager budget sequestration....peace

The TARP and bailout of A.I.G. and thus, Goldman Sachs; including the foreign banks exceeds 100 fold that amount of money being spent on entitlements: welfare. Both extremes; the billionaires on the right and the welfare recipients on the left are pulling the middle class apart at the seams....we need a center party to fight the extremes...

We have spent more than 1 million dollars per poor person on social programs since the 60's and we now have more poor people than ever.

If we had just written all the poor a check for 1 million in the 60's it would have been cheaper.
