They usually wont eat them anyway if they have other food.Its just the hunt and play with and kill instinct most likely.Occasionally I will find one on my back porch that the ferrel cats have killed but they always just leave it there.Have never actually seen them eat one but they do have food on the porch daily. You must be a city boy. Our cats LOVE field mice. To death. God didn't make any food on the Earth that is better for a cat, than a mouse. No country as can be but if you feed them cat food then they dont eat mice if they are not hungry.simple as that.
