SEOUL, April 6 (Yonhap) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un recently ordered the country's arms industry workers to increase their production of artillery, a television report out of Pyongyang showed Saturday.

"Once the war breaks out, we have to destroy the enemies' key military locations and government institutions with a quick and sudden strike," Kim was quoted as saying. "We must absolutely guarantee the quality of our artillery and shells to ensure a rapid pre-emptive attack on our enemies."

The DMZ is 248km long with more than a million troops staring each other down, backed by so much firepower that the guns opening at once would be heard from Vladivostok.

I'd say that SAC would be ramping up its alert level tomorrow morning.

people keep saying north korea is all talk, and that this happens all the time. They downplay this situation and say that nothing is going to happen. But in my opinion, this seems like a quick escalation. The likes of which will have an outcome, for better or for worse who knows. Are we expecting something BIG this weeek?

Sometimes North Korea is only talk. Other times, they're action. See below.

The Rangoon bombing of October 9, 1983, was an assassination attempt against Chun Doo-hwan, the fifth President of South Korea

July 7, 2003. North Korean troops open fire at the DMZ around 6 AM. The South Korean army reports four rounds fired from the North and seventeen from the South

March 26, 2010: A South Korean naval vessel, the Destroyer “Cheonan”, was sunk by a North Korean torpedo near Baengnyeong Island in the Yellow Sea.

November 23, 2010: North Korea fired artillery at South Korea's Greater Yeonpyeong island in the Yellow Sea, killing civilians and Marines.

On March 30, 2013, North Korea formally declared war on South Korea, cutting off all hotlines and severing all non-aggression pacts, including the 1953 Armistice.

That doesn't sound like "just talk" to me.

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be leaking this stuff to the fucking media if there was any legitimate threat behind it.

By withdrawing all the workers from the Industrial Complex (as if they are internalizing for total war, similar to soviet Russia before WWII), NK is exhibiting weird behaviour.

This article is probably pointing out something that is translated strangely.

Or LiL Kim is out shopping for new shades for the nuclear burnout coming his way.

The funny thing is, they've always warned SK through their media outlets.

It's just the timing of the attacks that have been random.

For instance, they'll threaten something on January 1, and attack in August.

They're unpredictable like that.

I was born 2 months after the armistice was signed. 1953. Never has there been such a ramp up of hostilities to match this. It seems to me the slightest miscalculation could set this off.

If lil Kim keeps ramping up the war machine like this, there will be no turning back soon. The U.S. will have to strike in defense of guaranteeing a no first strike from NK.

The two "missing" subs are Sang-O class. They are torpedo attack submarines. They cannot fire a ballistic missile.

The only way they are some kind of nuclear threat is if a bomb was inside the hull and they used the sub as a suicide bomb.

And since they have only 1800 nautical mile range, and a top speed of 9 knots, they are not going to try to sail one to North America. They'd have to surface so many times to refuel that they'd be spotted and sunk.

I agree. I think it is a case of watch this hand here and not my other one. I think he has people inside the US who will carry out some kind of attack. He may be aligned with Islamic terrorists too. Or some attack on our electronic infrastructure.

And was that basketball player involved? Why are JZ and Beyonce in Cuba, and why was Ayes in Egypt around the Arab Spring time? And what really happened in Benghazi? And who is the common connection to all these events?

Rather then paying attention to the hundreds of smaller nukes planted in the tunnels they dug out for decades under the south

That is a very real nuclear threat. I was just tired of everyone getting their panties bunched over the subs, when the only folks that should be worried about them are sailors on ROK or USN ships near Korea.
