Jesus was beyond labeling. He was very much on his own mission and wasn't particularly concerned about the prevailing political or religious views of the day.

People weren't programmed the same way that we are 2000 years ago.

Jesus Christ was compassionate, and there is little compassion left in this world.... As your OP would suggest.

His statement is hardly neo-con rhetoric. It's pretty accurate, actually. At least you liberals are accepting of other people's views, eschewing hateful speech and labels.

Or maybe not.

Why do we label those who would like universal health care (this is just an eg) socialists like it's an evil doctrine but then Governments (think bailouts) happily hand over billions to corporations?

Privatise the profits and socialise the losses?

He consorted with prostitutes and other dregs of his society. I bet he would have been comfortable with gay marriage.

Of course he was basically a rabbi, so it probably would depend on his interpretation of the Torah.

'and so is religion' pretty much covers the conservative Christians I think. :)

Meaning, we all have mental impairments. Mostly created by/in our own minds. Liberalism, conservatism, religion... mental constructs.

Re: Was Jesus a Liberal?
His followers were mostly Ebionites - proto communists living in villages called Beth Any (House of the Poor) where (as written in the Book of Acts) they shared all their posessions in common. After His death, they spread this model across Europe in the form of monasteries.

He was the heir of Joseph, who was obviously not his birth father. People in Egypt, where He grew up, believed that His mother had been raped by an Ethiopian. Obviously, He supported mixed marriages.

He believed in separation of church and state. When shown a coin that bore the imprint "Augustus Caesar-the Living God", He said "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's. Render unto God what is God's".

He practised asymmetric warfare. He said "Now is the time for every man to take up a sword." When shown one sword, he said "That is enough." One of his inner circle, Judas Iscariot (ish sicarioth) probably belonged to the sicarii, a fantical sect of suicide assassins, another Simon Zelotes, was probably a Zealot, another rebel group. When a reinforced cohort (1,500 -2,000 men) of Roman soldiers and the Temple Guards (1,000?) came to attack the Jerusalem Beth Any, he met them alone, caused them al to "fall down", got in close to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate, and made a mockery of his state terror apparatus by rising from the dead. Within 200 years, Roman Caesars and European royalty were claiming Him as the the source of their authority.

He was the leader of an OWS type movement. The Temple in Jerusalem was one of the biggest financial institutions in the Roman Empire. Cheques were written against its treasuy funds. In one day, he drove approximately 20,000 currency traders off the temple mount accusing them of "turning His Father's House into a den of thieves"

He stirred up the people into open rebellion against Rome, by allowing the people to enthrone him on their clan robes, and ride the Royal Donkey into Jerusalem, hailing Him as "the Son of David". His brother, "Bar-Abbas (son of the father. Jesus went by the code name Bar-Adam, son of man or human being), committed murder in the rebellion".

Jesus was far too radical to be called a Liberal or a Conservative. He hated hypocrite of all stripes.
