"When we realize that we are not separate from the universe, but rather a very integral part of it, we can see that their is a motivation behind the manifestation of the Internet, and that it is self similar to brain development on a global scale.
"

I've always thought of the computer/ internet as a system/ means created for the purpose of expanding the capacity and capability of the human brain, and so that of our awareness/ conciousness.
A tool and a facilitator- a system/ construct we're familiar with because it operates and functions like the brain/ consciousness.
At some point we''ll be capable of riding without the 'training wheels'- eventually without the 'bike' itself.

It seems it's simply the next evolutionary development in communication- a progression from grunts and gestures, to verbal, to pictures, to language, (oral and written)...and in the near future- thought.

'Cerebral' topic OP. I like it:).

The internet and all of your activity on it will live forever in the crystalline memory banks of the Akashic records.

Also remember that time you put your screwdriver on the live side of that contactor? You thought nobody saw you right? It's there too, along with many other magnetic explosions.

There was that time in around 1999 when I took a whole bank down.

Interesting timing and event, and your post made me think of it in that way. : )

I was an apprentice and was working with a journeyman on maintenance to a couple of Cleaver Brooks boilers. The journeyman was called out on a service call so he left me there that afternoon. I was using my multimeter which I had recently purchased to check voltage on some pump starters. The problem was that the leads on the meter were set in the amperage jacks and not the voltage ones (noobie mistake), so when I checked the phase to phase voltage on the pump starter, it caused a direct short between the phases and it blew up in my face. I was okay but the building, a data center for a major bank in town, had lost one of its phases because my short caused one of the main 100 amp fuses for the entire building to blow.

So for a little while anyways, all that digital money on their computer servers went poof! abomb

I can still hear the sound of the feet charging up the stairwell to the mechanical penthouse I was working in. chuckle

I would guess the evolution would be along the line of Google Glasses. Finally, something embedded into your brain. First it would be synthetic and then organic. You will have nearly unlimited intelligence and the capability to speak any language.

The Internet form a technical standpoint cannot end. Two computers equipped with the IP protocol and a comm link between them is enough to start an internet.

A possible scenario is that it will be torn appart to give rise to several nationwide or regional intranets such as those already found in totalitarian states in Asia, Africa and Middle East.

The government firewalls would be the new border control. Taxation and copyright issues will push this agenda even further.

Re: How Will the Internet End?
The internet will end when we are able to enter 3-D holographic worlds through our eyes by a form of new technology. Just like entering a virtual real life computer game and you will be the player. After this new form of technology nobody will bother using the internet because you will be able to enter worlds and get all the information though holographic worlds.
When this happens people will eventually switch off from using the internet because it takes effort to have a computer and sit down, load things, type things out to find information etc..

Whereas with this new technology it will be like living in a 3-D virtual world. Maybe it will be to do with digital 3-D glasses or some sort of digital device implanted within our eyes and we can switch it on whenever we want.

This will take people out of the "real world" and enter a virtual reality world. Plus it will be a distraction and something which TPTB will like in order for more simple control over the physical bodies of us all.

I think the internet is here to stay with us for at least another 45-50 years until the 2050's+ when a new form of technology will be introduced involving a device implanted in our eyes to create virtual and holographic settings around us.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37720811

Look at how technology distracts us from simple acts like driving nowadays. Can you imagine a society with such a technology as you describe, being able to function on a day to day basis? I would think that such virtual worlds as you describe, would be irresistible to many people. Nothing would get done in "the real world", whatever that means.

Re: How Will the Internet End?
The internet will never end because it gives everyone access to everything going on in this world - all the information we need.
Your question should really be how will the internet evolve?

Like I have said above in my previous comments I believe the way we use the internet will change drastically once new technology is introduced via devices implanted in the human eyes to give us immediate acces to information and create our own holographic worlds.

Just like social media sites of today like Facebook and chat rooms where you can invite people to enter forums or create your own online social hang out, they will be forgotten when this new technology comes in.

When we are able to create and enter holographic worlds you could invite friends and other people to enter your own 3-D holographic world which you have made up.
Rather than it being online and in 2-D it will all be in 3-D, kind of like Total Recall except you don't need any injections because the digital device implanted in your eye can somehow allow you to enter your own personal world and you can invite others to connect to your world.
Don't tell me how it will all work.

Facebook will be long gone before then.
Maybe it will be called "MyWorldSpace" or something.

I think this will happen but not for a long time.
This would be great to see but then again I'm not so sure about having a device implanted in me, nor having a mark of the beast.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37720811

Then I would suggest you vote for the option of "transformative" in the poll. As it is an option that represents evolution and if such a technological scenario like you suggest comes to fruition, then we could look back to now and think about how the Internet as we knew it ended.

Re: How Will the Internet End?
And one more thing, the internet will never ever end because it gives us all the information we need constantly.
It's only when we are all bored of accessing information and when we are able to freely create our own world and information which will lead to people switching off the internet to get away from real life and enter our own personal worlds.

When we are able to create and access our own made up holographic world is when people will become bored of the internet and real life.
The fun will be getting away from real life and real reality and entering our mnade up one.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37720811

But as things stand today, the "made up world" is reliant upon "the real world" functioning as it does from day to day, in order to support and service the infrastructure that makes the "made up world" possible in the first place. So if, in the future, most people's attention will be drawn into these "made up realities", then who's gonna keep things running in "the real world"?

Automation? scratching

Or probably overtime suckers like me. ohyeah

This short film made by Peter Russell demonstrates how consciousness reorganizes itself over the eons. Much like how billions of cells make up a single human, we are on the verge of finding out what billions of humans are going to sum up to.

Abruptly.

One EMP could fry everthing in the US, or Eurpope, or (insert natino here). One good sized blast from the sun and half the planet will have no working fine electronics or electricity to power the simple machines either.

Some day one of the other is going to happen. Got books?
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

Good morning KK!

:mayantempl:

The fractal view of consciousness evolution points to our current position as being one that evokes heavy doses of mental challenges and means of stretching out our consciousness. And more often than not I'm feeling like I'm moving through a mental "jungle gym" so to speak. tredmil

Which can be difficult for sure. But just the thought of knowing that's what we're supposed to be experiencing right now often makes me feel better about the parts that I struggle with. sun

Their are two creative forces at work that we know of in everyday life. Nature and humans.

If it gets to the point to what you describe AC, then I would think it would be fair to say that humans would be on par with the creative force of Nature.

But that's not supposed to happen...I don't think...
