I lived in one of those places targeted by the Thatcher Gov for 'economic decline'. A town once surrounded by factories that employed proud working men, destroyed by Thatchers policies.

True story... In high school, 1st, 2nd and 3rd year we had 'careers' lessons. We learned how to fill in C.V's (resumes) etc and were told we could be what we wanted to be...

4th and 5th year, after the Thatcher economy kicked in, we were literally taught how to fill in a B1 form (benefit claims form), yes, really, in high school!

I have only said this about one other person but I'm glad she is dead. She was a hateful woman who sent many to their deaths, who made the lives of many very, very miserable and whose vision of how to treat others was completely at odds with common decency. And yes I am aware of the tradition that one should say nothing bad of the dead - this is my polite opinion of the woman who started her political career stealing milk from children and went downhill from there.


All in all,a very divisive person who changed the UK utterly.

She made Councils sell off all the council houses so that working class families can't get decent housing these days and are forced to rent from Slumlords at high prices.

She sold off the Utility Companies to Private owners so that now pensioners freeze to death in winter because they can't afford the expensive fuel prices charged by these profit-hungry monstrosity companies. (Hopefully this current Government will stop this practice).

She stopped free school milk. for young children

Poll Tax/Council Tax (making everyone pay a huge chunk of their income to the Local Authority in Tax with no regard as to their ability to pay this)

Decimated our Heavy Industries costing millions of jobs - at the height of her power there were 3 million unemployed!!

Destroyed the Trade Unions, robbing the working man of the right to stand up for himself

Turned this country from a place where people lived in strong communities with a sense of culture and heritage into a capitalist hellhole where everyone is laden with debt, morals and tradition has gone to the dogs and noone gives a sh*t about each other and only cares about credit cards and consumer crap.
