Rosa DeLauro and Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn equally outraged. But the Pentagon paying $17 million apiece for a fleet of Russian helicopters certainly does the trick. The Defense Department wants to spend taxpayers' money to buy 30 more Russian-made Mi-17 helicopters to give to the Afghan army, through what is effectively a no-bid contract that blocks competing bids from such American helicopter manufacturers as Sikorsky, Bell and Boeing." According to wikipedia our own military only pays about $21 million for a blackhawk. It seems silly to cut our own precious military industrial complex out of hundreds of millions of dollars over a measley $4 million savings per aircraft. Money that would actually continue to circulated in our country and keep Americans working. Better yet, get smart and give them some well used birds and spend the money buying new ones for our own troops. |

judahbenhuer User ID: 35795812 United States 04/10/2013 01:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The current administration has a list of top priorities. Unfortunately, funding our military did not make that list. “My religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me. That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave.” -Stonewall Jackson "The Bible that is falling apart usually belongs to a person who is not." - Charles Spurgeon “I apprehend no danger to our country from a foreign foe . . . Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter. From the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government, from their carelessness and negligence, I must confess that I do apprehend some danger. I fear that they may place too implicit a confidence in their public servants, and fail properly to scrutinize their conduct; that in this way they may be made the dupes of designing men, and become the instruments of their own undoing. Make them intelligent, and they will be vigilant; give them the means of detecting the wrong, and they will apply the remedy.” “If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering and to prosper; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.” -Daniel Webster |

And he’s doing so over the bipartisan objections of Congress from both the right and left and a ban on buying them written into the NDAA. Quoting: peer pressure proof The US Department of Defense said Thursday it plans to sidestep a Congressional ban to purchase 30 helicopters from Russian state-owned defense firm Rosoboronexport, despite objections from US lawmakerswho allege that the firm has equipped the Syrian government to commit brutal crimes against civilians.
