Sensible, safe sex, in my opinion, should be engaged in. Why? Because, as you get older and are ready to settle down, you will look at your potential sole mate, not for sexual reasons, but for what they have to offer mentally and if they are compatible. When religion restricts this, and yuo must marry to have sex, I believe that you doom a marriage at the outset, because these young folks marry out of lust, only to have the rose colored blinders pulled off later, and regret the entire arrangement...

Mormons, and JW's, et al are all guilty of this. Met so many messed up marriages in these religions, whereas, on the outside, they tend not to be that bad - and if they are, they get divorced. Not in those religions, its for LIFE even if you don't love each other, only if someone takes the bullet and commits "adultry"...

You kind of answered your own question. They do it that way because marriage isn't supposed to be about sex, but about love. If you marry simply to be able to have sex you aren't really following the rules anyway.

...but if you are young and a virgin, tell me that marriage at that point is NOT about sex? Don't tell me love. I've seen many young folks get married, because that was basically the only way they could "legally" in the eyes of the church have relations. Then, years later, they regret it, because they really did not get to know the person for WHO they were, it was all about satisfying natural urges...

I think you make valid points OP. My first wife was raised staunch conservative Baptist and no hanky-panky until after the wedding. Marriage barely lasted 2 years and the second year it was clear we were not meant to be married to each other. Ended up causing a divorcee which of course condemns you in conservative churches because you can kill your spouse and say you asked forgiveness and they will accept it, but get a divorce - no sir, it is hell bound for you.
This is true about most religions. Muslim women wear burkas. I've heard something about Jewish people using a sheet as part of sex even married.
My question is when the Bible, Koran, Torah, etc. written what defined marriage at that time? People can't see it wasn't what we do today with licenses from the state and all that. People on the frontier back in the day seldom if ever saw a preacher to get church married.
Now I totally separate religion from having sex, although when you were raised & indoctrinated like I was sometimes you feel a little guilt that you have to learn to get past.

It is interesting that these people adhere to texts written long ago. If they would only delve a little deeper into the matter they would find that women, were considered property! They were even considered lower than husbandry/work animals! Sad...

I'm not saying to be promiscuous, but at least practice safe relations, get to know what men and women are about, and then when you "got it out of your system" and are ready to settle down, you can look past the natural urges and find someone whom you can live your whole life with...

Any ex-jw's or mormons that found this out the hard way? Or other hard core "protestants/baptists, etc"?

They do not understand that when scripture speaks against divorce they could not possibly have comprehended back then what we refer to as "divorce" today with courts, lawyers, property settlements, etc. The woman at the well in the Bible said she had 6 husbands. She never mentioned 6 divorces, 6 weddings, and so forth. We need to ask what did she consider to be a "husband"? They claim you have "married" everyone you have "slept with" if that is so we are almost all going to hell under any religion.
