I live in Texas, and yes people on drugs are on welfare. I have a neighbor who is a single Mama to four kids. She does not work, and she once sent a kid over to "borrow a page" out of the phone book. As a former drug user, I do not think she was interested in finding a plumber..

I agree it's a first step, but if anything they need to quit giving welfare to the children of illegals because it gives their parents a reason to have six kids and work under the table. Or even worse, with a stolen social..

Hey Texas- Florida here. Sorry, Rick Scott tried that and they caught something like .008% of recepients while costing millions to do it. The cost benefit analysis says FAIL.

Oh, and our economy is shit compared to Texas so if I had to guess who was caught it was probably all grad students enjoying a bit of reefer.

Who collects TAX revenue from the sales of Alcohol, Tobaco, and Firearms? And some of you people think that God blesses America? Yeah, right, sure.

Just saying how it is, or will be, not saying it's right.. , the only way to break the chains of welfare is to recondition/relearn them off welfare, that will take a least one generation.. which will never be done because they are the anchor of the Democrats voting base...
And gain employment how??? That's not in the plans for anybody in this country at this time.

Make communities! Without communities the Federal Government has absolute authority, and all of sudden we have no choice on what new program we pay for, and we have no control over how it's administered, or how poorly it used and abused.

At least if charity were run on a county level, I could make sure the funds were given to the right people.

All a drug test will do is a net loss to the tax payer. It will create a few jobs which produce nothing, create more paperwork, loopholes, and inefficiency.

Any social program at the federal and most of the times state level has been abused, and is run poorly. socialism only works if it's with less then 150 people. Any more then that and it falls apart and becomes totalitarianism. It's a poor system of government, and a form of wealth redistribution.

We need to level the playing field! No person gets anything more then another. No unfair advantages! No bailouts! If you fail as a person, a corporation, etc, you better have friends to help you out, and guess what if you or your company is an A$$hole? Then you starve and die! This BS of more equal, of more in need is destroying this country!

As the poster above pointed out, the testing cost Florida many times more than what they saved by "catching" welfare drug users.

It's somewhat akin to the madness of the "War on Drugs". Huge expenditure, little or no progress.

There has to be a better way of handling things...I just don't know what it is. When the cost of doing something consistently out weighs the benefits, it is broken.

Fiscal responsibility comes first and foremost. You don't waste money and you don't spend money that you don't have. Throwing money down the toilet just so some "pothead" can't have it is actually quite insane.

You also have to remember that just because somebody is having a hard time right now, and is asking for help, doesn't mean they are a druggie. TANF and SNAP are two different things. Granted, it can be easy to sell SNAP benefits, but it usually goes to .50 on the dollar. Whereas TANF is straight cash loaded on your card. You also have these privately owned Indian gas stations that will charge ANYTHING on a SNAP card. That is why people need to report abuse. Report the stores and it will get traced back to the card holder.

People who TRULY need benefits are getting screwed by the lazy. I see it on a daily basis here in Tx.
