Biggest solar flare of the year? aha were not even four months in the new year and the sun has been pretty quiet.. so not much to compare it to.

Maybe I'm wrong but this just seems hyped up. It's an M-6.

Still fascinating though.
 Quoting: Dapurps

It's not the size of the flare that matters in this instance. It's the biggest flare of the year so far because it actually DID something. It actually briefly disturbed radio transmission.

All the "giant ultra-sun-doom" flairs so far that generated 20+ page threads have done absolutely nothing.

Make sense now?

Didn't notice it was a CME so ya you're right.

Hmm... So possible EMP false flag from NK on 14th - 15th blamed on solar flare? Seeing that 15th is birthday of Kim Il Sung and possible test missile launch.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5206066

"On April 15 North Korea will celebrate an occasion that is little noticed in the rest of the world, even though the official news agency annually reports wild celebrations of it in such places as Nicaragua and Mozambique.

It is the Day of the Sun, which this year marks the 101st anniversary of the birth of Kim Il-sung, the Korean Stalin, founder of the Democratic People's Republic, initiator of the Korean War of 1950-53, in which more than 1,100 British soldiers died, ruler for life and now, in death, officially an eternal leader.

He was Kim Jong-un's grandfather. The porcine young man with the slicked-back hair is the third generation of his dynasty to govern this isolated nation of 24m. He needs to show his people he is as great as his grandfather and his father, Kim Jong-il."

"North Korea has to exit this without a loss of face. Something has to happen."

M class flare?
Isn't that a little small?

That has nothing to do with the Sun, unless you get your internet from a satellite.

It's an M-6. Even with a best case CME DIRECTLY aimed at Earth, you ~might~ get auroras as low as Chicago or Devner in the States. Nothing more will come of it.

Satellites all have detection on board for this sort of thing, and "go to sleep" to protect themselves. They can, and do, handle MUCH more than this.

I'd rather the EMP come from the sun than from NK. It seems more fair that way somehow, like no man can get credit for it.

once again , a big fat lie gets pinned ...

an M6 flare is not the biggest flare of this cycle ... it isn't even an X - class

go change your diaper and come back when you grow up

MINOR RADIATION STORM: Energetic solar protons are flying past Earth today. The particles were accelerated in our direction by the M6-class flare of April 11th (see below). They can be seen hitting and speckling the detector of the SOHO spacecraft in this movie of the explosion (labeled image). NOAA ranks the ongoing radiation storm as S1, which is considered a minor event. Solar flare alerts: text, voice.

 Quoting: 2012Portal

Cosmic rays from the Flare arrive in 8 minutes, traveling at speed of light, and caused the radio problems today. The charged particles of the CME travel much slower, somewhere around 3-10 million miles/hour. So they don't get here for a day or two.

This is no ordinary solar x ray flare, and the radio interruptions can be explained by the almost simultaneous arrival of the protons with the electromagnetic x rays, as clearly depicted in the chart above. The proton flux begins to rise about a half an hour after the arrival of the x ray flux, meaning the fastest of the protons were moving 1/3C.

The flare would have been rated much higher had the full brunt of it's electromagnetic spectrum been Earth directed.

Laugh at these remote viewers all you like, but thy have a scary track record for making obscure but correct predictions. They can't ever seem to nail down a specific time frame, they never seem to look at a clock or a calender when they are doing their "remote viewing", but they do in fact make a lot of correct predictions. The warnings on this eruption are ominous and very unusual.

I wouldn't expect anything spectacular to happen, but what is alarming is the arrival of the protons being accelrated by the resultant CME is much more rapid than normal. Since the energy level is determined by velocity, and we see a wide spectrum of energy levels increasing simultaneously, it translates into protons already near Earth were accelerated by the blast by a magnetic impulse if I am interpreting the data correctly.

These are very unusual times indeed. The solar maximum has been delayed somewhat but the x ray flares we have had have exhibited exaggerated effects. We no longer have the magneto pause simulation data because I think it is all but gone and the data being with held. The magnetosphere itself has been fairly stable and strong as of late, but we have data but from two geo stationary satellites. We KNOW the magnetosphere has large voids in it.

That's not it. The "ball" got spit out many hours before the big earth-directed flare.

There is absolutely no doubt about it, what would have been minor events in the past are now having more protracted and intense results. If you had read all of my material in the two threads I have posted on GLP under this screen id, you would know precisely what is happening and why. They are lengthy, in act all of my posts on both threads are actually book length, but if you simply scroll over the trolls and 'bunkers' and read what I said it will all begin to make sense.

Yes, I DID have the date of the 'kill shot' wrong. BUT, the sunspot I predicted would appear and be perfectly geo effective on that date did in fact materialize. At the time a very unusual phenomenon which I couldn't explain at the time was causing sunspots to become inactive while Earth facing. I NOW KNOW WHAT IT WAS that caused this effect, but have sworn to silence not to give away anything that could help TPTB. I want them to roast along with the rest of us, and roast they will.
