Anonymous Coward User ID: 37949380 United States 04/12/2013 10:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I can't speak about every "gun nut" in the world, because I haven't met that many. I can say that, in a land where violent crime is slowly diminishing, anyone that overly fears crime or attack, needs to question themselves as to why they feel that way. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1063144 Also what there purpose is in owning vast amounts of firearms. That tends to go hand in hand with unbalanced personality types, doesn't it? I'm not talking about someone have four weapons, for different purposes, or someone who is simply a collector, picking up rare and unusual guns as a hobby. People collect statues of big eyed children and dolphins as well. I can see it as being similar. But people that have dozens of weapons, all meant to fight... How many do they think they're going to need? And again, why do they think it? I know, there is no place for reason here at times, but I think that there is a real place for examining the signs of a deranged and possibly dangerous person. Having guns alone isn't enough, but it might cause a person to wonder what you're up to. Why does a person who owns guns have to be up to something? Some people simply like guns just like others like cars or tea cups or cuckoo clocks. Who needs 50 clocks in their house? Well, no one does but a clock enthusiast may have many varieties of the same type of clock simply because they like them. Same with guns, however, you are too ill-informed about the genre to understand that enthusiasts know the differences and nuances of the pieces they own whereas others fail to see the import. The bottom line is that this is America, and, because gun ownership is recognized as a God-given right here, no one should be able to tell me what I am allowed or not allowed to own. |

And no, I'm no liberal. I never needed a gun during my 46 yrs of life of which 11 of them were in the US. Some just goes a bit too far, that's all. It is possible to consider firearms as a hobby without having it be an obsession. Just like anything else, there are degrees. I've known sports "nuts" who seem to be mentally unbalanced, but I know others, myself included, who are sports fans as a hobby, but am not obsessed with it. ^^^^this^^^^ If one is obsessed with ANYTHING they are probably not all there. But also your idea of obsessed may not be on target < pun intended hehehehe > Alot of firearms owners admire their arms so simply because of the beauty and art of the mechanics. |

Don't forget the physics involved. Either way, the perception is largely due to the federal government and media's never ending campaign to attack and demonize anyone who enjoys firearms. So what happens? People get sick and tired of being harassed. Some aren't intelligent enough to tactfully articulate their ideals, which causes them to come off sounding nutty. That alone can largely account for this perception. |
