I can't speak about every "gun nut" in the world, because I haven't met that many. I can say that, in a land where violent crime is slowly diminishing, anyone that overly fears crime or attack, needs to question themselves as to why they feel that way.

Also what there purpose is in owning vast amounts of firearms.

That tends to go hand in hand with unbalanced personality types, doesn't it? I'm not talking about someone have four weapons, for different purposes, or someone who is simply a collector, picking up rare and unusual guns as a hobby. People collect statues of big eyed children and dolphins as well. I can see it as being similar.

But people that have dozens of weapons, all meant to fight...

How many do they think they're going to need? And again, why do they think it?

I know, there is no place for reason here at times, but I think that there is a real place for examining the signs of a deranged and possibly dangerous person.

Having guns alone isn't enough, but it might cause a person to wonder what you're up to.

Many are going way too far, and seem to be preoccupied with guns and gunrights nonstop, I see it all the time on fb. And no, I'm no liberal. I never needed a gun during my 46 yrs of life of which 11 of them were in the US. Some just goes a bit too far, that's all. I could support gunlaws for americans, but when I see those obcessed with the issue I almost wish they would loose their rights just for the heck of it.

Well, depends on what you classify as gun "nut". It is possible to consider firearms as a hobby without having it be an obsession. Just like anything else, there are degrees. I've known sports "nuts" who seem to be mentally unbalanced, but I know others, myself included, who are sports fans as a hobby, but am not obsessed with it.

OP the reason you don't know any normal people that owns guns is because the normal people don't go around telling everyone they have guns.. You would never know I have a gun on me unless I showed you. You're welcome in advance if I save your ass someday
