in my 50+ years I met a lotta gun enthusiasts who lived it as their hobby and nearly obsession. they were to a man, sick in the head. scary anti social, paranoid, SPOOKY.   Well, depends on what you classify as gun "nut". It is possible to consider firearms as a hobby without having it be an obsession. Just like anything else, there are degrees. I've known sports "nuts" who seem to be mentally unbalanced, but I know others, myself included, who are sports fans as a hobby, but am not obsessed with it. ^^^^this^^^^ If one is obsessed with ANYTHING they are probably not all there. But also your idea of obsessed may not be on target < pun intended hehehehe > Alot of firearms owners admire their arms so simply because of the beauty and art of the mechanics.
