What is wrong with people?

If it has a beat, rhythm, and a melody -- it's music.

I feel like the music of today, while the lyrics may be shallow and often do repetition of the same word multiple times to emphasize it's importance, the actual beat/rhythm/melody of today's songs are the pinnacle of human musical progression.

Obviously the lyrics need more work, but artists today have the unfortunate disadvantage of dealing with that fact that there are already tens of millions of lyrics for songs already made before them in the English language.

To NOT copyright these days is hard. Hence the repetition of the same word over and over, especially to rhyme the lyrics.

i.e. "And we laughed, and had a really really really good time."
