As a child, surrounded by vets from WWI, WWII, & Korea, I cherished the Lord (still do) and stood bye Old Glory without a single reservation. As a 45-year old father of 10 and 12-year olds, I'm not feeling the love much anymore. I should. My kids should. We ALL should. The only thing standing in between us and our flag are those lying, perverted, self-important, self-serving ASSHOLES in Washington. Any one of you fuckers in DC reading me??? YOU'RE going under the bus before my kids do.

The hippies and liberals pissed me off, because they sounded like they were simply whining and wanted something for nothing. Ironically, they're the ones running the show now and extending our military in an unprecedented fashion. And they're absolutely whining and wanting something for nothing AT THE SAME TIME.

I'm the first person to assert that no matter how stupid and quite frankly, infuriating burning our flag is, the idiot doing it is protected by the 1st Amendment. And yet, as an American that cherishes that flag, and moreover our Constitution, this government is declaring war on people like me. When will we EVER hold these people accountable to the same set of laws that we're expected to die for, when necessary, and at their will and pleasure?

What do you wish as an answer?

A verification of what you wrongly assumed?

Should I try to speak words equal to yours, fighting negativity with negativity?

Are these guys really the ones fighting for this world and for 'freedom'?

The 'freedom' you seem to be fighting for only exists because of your prison.

You don't know what real freedom is, or should I say, you are not yet free to know that you know it.

For starters, I was looking at the world through the eyes of a child in 1970. The only thing I understood about the hippie movement was that it was drastically different than the culture represented in a small, New England town. As an adult, and a veteran myself, I understand much of what the movement was trying to communicate. The MAJORITY of those hippies are now the closed-minded bigots you loathed back then. THEY are dirtier than the leadership they reviled, because they are hypocrites; Completely one-sided, and unwilling to acknowledge a paradigm in our leadership - that it's all about a corporate amalgamation that owes its allegiance to no flag. I'm the "stupid fuck?" Please reconsider. Incidentally, do you expect something in return for nothing? Because there are a HELL of a lot of people now that do.

My wife's grandfather just passed away. He and I were very close. He was stationed in Europe with a P-51 squadron during WWII. We shared some great dialogue, but I did much more listening than talking. The vets of his generation weren't saying much, because they were somehow shamed into suffering in silence. Beyond our conversations, he didn't think anyone else understood, or was willing to. So he unloaded on me. Well DAMMIT, I OWE him, and every other vet that's been sent away to the Almighty, and every American with eyes and ears, to call these bastards out once and for all. And you liberals, you OWN this administration, so you've got nowhere to run and nowhere to hide this time.

The media is busy legitimizing North Korea, our leadership is entertaining nuclear war, a new narrative is being spoon fed to us, the well from which the system will draw, and my concerns are met with a single star. Priceless.

I'm grateful for the engaging replies otherwise.

There are very few things in this world I can't endure (or frankly haven't). Being lied to is #1 on that list. How do I communicate my love for this nation to my kids and avoid my obvious disdain for what its system of government has evolved into? Or am I failing to give them the benefit of the doubt, that they wouldn't or couldn't understand that on their own? Every day, I'm finding they know more than I give them credit for, so perhaps I've answered my own question. Kids don't handle mixed-messages very well, and any of you with kids will quickly realize Dad's perspective here and what they're getting in school are two completely different things.

Now if I might be more constructive then destructive .. It seems that Korea is going to be the scapegoat for some very much broader issues.. In the mean time our propped up economy
Is producing more money then we have the capability of producing. Since we have sent all of our ability to produce to countries that money people could take advantage of.. We are short timers for economic failure.. Also we have the back door of allowing and funding illegals to subvert our way of life even further.. Americans need to wake up.. Promote our ability to produce the best products in the world and yes plan to pay more for our way of life ..
