You know I get that Chinese love their pet dogs but the Chinese government if it really wanted this to end (being that its a COMMUNIST country) they could end it immediately if they wanted to but they aren't because millions of dogs (and cats) are used in the manufacture of the leather products China exports annually.

How about a petition to stop the murder of babies born alive and stabbed with scissors? How can someone be SO outraged about an animal but not a helpless newborn human!?? Fight for them!

This petition helps do that. I'm vegetarian for 22 years. 22 years ago people considered vegetarianism weird and now there's millions of us in the U.S. It's about waking people up. Maybe if they realize those dogs that are being boiled alive had their fur removed first to provide the fur for the trim of those pretty parkas they're wearing they'll stop buying dog and cat products. When the Chinese realize that their profits are suffering, they'll change. If Walmart tomorrow made Chinese manufacturers certify no dogs or cats were used in their leather/clothing THAT would change things and put some dog slaughterhouses out of business.

That's what we need! A petition to pressure Walmart, JCP, Target, etc... !!!!

OP, how about getting a petition to Walmart and the other big retailers started????

There would be a minor, very very minor, element of economics to it, but exports would in no way be the reason.

It is cultural, because it is an ancient practice (and please do not think for one moment your ancestors never ate anything that would be considered strange now - hell, westerners are eating horse hamburgers and sausages in 2013 FFS)...and SOME (a minority) think there is health and cultural benefits to it.

Most modern Chinese though would not condone it broadly speaking.

It is very difficult for the govt to make broad laws, they do not always filter down to the provinces and local county level...China is way more complicated than most make out/

For me, its not THAT they eat dogs and cats. I wish no one ate animals--I sure don't . But for me, the real issue is HOW they torture them. How oblivious they are to the pain and suffering they are inflicting needlessly.

I'm a hunter, I worked as a butcher, and am a dog owner. And I don't care you don't treat an animal like that. Life is precious no matter what the animal. If I'm out hunting for deer, I aim for the heart. If I don't have a clear shot at the heart. I don't take the shot. When I'm hunting I'm not in the business of torturing animals. I'm in the business of getting meat for my family for the winter. I also don't kill does. I align myself with what the Native Americans teach, that we all get our life from mother earth, and if you need to take that life. You do it out of respect, not because you think it's yours to take.
