No debt here, either. Built my own house on heritage land great-great grandfather had. Taxes are dirt cheap on it for that reason. No mortgage, 60k truck paid with cash.

I can garden for food. I feel very rich, regardless of how much cash I have on hand.

Good on you OP, I learned my lesson in '91 and will NEVER carry any consumer debt again. Feels good too, my money is MINE.

What's wrong is that people buy expensive things, useless electronics, etc etc., with the logic that they will work and pay it off slowly.

These same morons look for deals, thinking they are saving money, and end up paying shit load of interest.

Same here. My house is paid off, my cars are paid off, and I somehow live on a grand a month through proper budgeting of my income. I mainly do it because I don't being a debt slave ... If I want to work, I will.

I haven't been in debt since I was 22 or so. I can tell my boss to shove my job up his ass any day I damn well please.

Only debt I have is a mortgage. I could pay it off, but would rather have the money as a backup. Interest on it is less than 4%. Even on a 15 year note, it is cheaper than the going rent on a 2 bedroom duplex or a trailer, so I don't really look at it as a bad thing. But, never have had credit card debt and pay cash for vehicles when absolutely necessary. I don't see how some people sleep at night living paycheck to paycheck. My ex makes $60,000/year and runs out of money a week before payday every month. I barely make half that and could retire tomorrow if I weren't so scared to do without the stinkin' health insurance plan.
