$10,000?
What does that buy? Some nachos?

Well some people know how to make a little bit, into a LOT. I was doing some math and I realized all it would really take is 10 grand and I could completely change mine and my child's life forever, for the better.....

I prefer to donate to my local shelters and food banks.

People learn very little from money being handed to them, I'm sorry to say this but if $10,000.00 would change your life, $10,000.00 would change the lives of many if properly distributed.

To me it seems that making a "Donation" of that size to an individual cause would do nothing but enable the actions that caused the lack of money in the first place.

However, I am not what most people would call, wealthy. but I live well and try to help those around me that can not help themselves with what I have left. but I worked and Starved for what I have now, and have even spent time living on the street to get where I am.

I do nkow how you feel though, at least to some degree. I remember (not all that fondly) thinking how $5 could completely change my life.

$10K isn't that much these days, even a person working minimum wage can save up that amount in a year or so, eating oatmeal and collecting all available government welfare.

I teach men to fish, that'll be 10% of your gross income, thanks a bunch.

If they gave their money away to everyone they wouldn't be rich anymore.

Besides giving people money ALWAYS makes them resentful over time.

I am very happy to see someone wealthy helps those in need. That's very cool man... Respect to you.. However I find it a mean thing to assume my actions are what caused me to be poor. I'll share some personal details here. I saved every dime I had since I was 18. I'm now 23 with a child. Someone found it ok to break into my home, rob me of every last dime, and this caused me to lose my home, and my car, which in return- caused me to lose the job I worked my ass off to earn. It's crazy how one small event could ruin someones entire life and make them start back at square One.

I just look at what I would do if I were wealthy. I'd find families starting out, in need, find out their story, and donate them enough cash to put them well-off in order to start a positive family. I believe the family structure in this country is fading away, so I want to do all I can to preserve that!!!

do tell us clearly and succinctly how ten thousand US dollars could alter yours and your childs' (don't forget to mention child's age) permanentaly.

10 grand is a weekend in Tuscany in July so don't spare me the details.

Learning how to start over from nothing is a hell of a lot more important than gifts from strangers.

God knows I've done it so many times that it's down to a science at this point.

Yeah well I say 10 grand because after the math I did, and after the amount i got robbed for, I figure 10 grand would put me back in the boat I was in. Working hard with a good job a decent vehicle and a decent place for me and my child to live in....Never been greedy, just realistic.

There are some people who take advantage of others kindness when they dont need it. Some people are greedy and dont want to share. Life is not fair. For your own sanity, Don't begrudge the material wealth of others and cherish the living. Money means nothing in the grand scheme of things. :-)

3 grand for a decent vehicle. Just to get my job back and commute to work so I can continue saving. Another 3 grand or so for a decent place to live in and paid off for a few months. That's 6 so far. The other 4 thousand would be saved for food, diapers, (for my 9 month old child), food for myself, medical bills, pay off my credit card, gas money for work, etc... Oh the little things in life! lol. Yeah after I did the math though 10 grand would be plenty to alter our reality for good...... I was just saying how it's insane that amount of money wouldn't even be missed or noticed by some people, but could do SO much for us...

seriously, I doubt the money help all that much for you beyond adding some comforts not currently present in your lives, but for what it is work I feel deeply terrible for you to have to suffer this, and to care for a child at the same time man that is seriously impressive. nothing but respect from me.

If i was to offer my advise though, I would say, this is the time for you to maybe look for greener pastures in better situated countries where there is still a possibility to make a go of it.
Rebuild your life for you and your child and take on new opportunities you never had or will have in the US, I hate to say it but the writing is on the wall my friend, things are bad, they are only getting worse, they will continue to get worse and worse. take life by it's horns and get out while you can.

I've tried to see it like this. Believe me I have. However, money does mean something, because in a climate where I can't grow my own food, nor do I have the land to do it, My child and I need to eat. That's just fact...

10K or even a million wouldn't change the behaviors that are keeping you poor...lottery winners always end up broke after a few years and they have blown all their money.

Well if you think about it, the money the government spent on bailing out banks n other companies could have been evenly distributed to the public that is poor.... However, they should all have to take psychological tests and drug tests before receiving a dime!!! But if they pass those two things, I say print and give it to them. Why not? It's not like they are doing anything positive with all that money.. It's either just sitting, or being spent on stupid shit. What happened to the family structure of Americans? It's fading. And it all boils down to lack of jobs and $$$$

Behaviors? Excuse me? I get up every day and walk to employment offices seeking another job. I don't even have the luxury of public transportation. I don't see it relevant to give you any details, but that really offends me to think my behavior is why I'm poor. So arrogant... so you would instantly waste 3 grand of my 'hardly'-earned on a rustbucket piece of shit car while my '98 F355 Berlinetta needs $4800 per year servicing just to retain a good provenance. OK lets keep going.

Amen to that

The gov't is flush with cash, look at the number of families that receive food stamps, free housing, free medical.

Food banks, cathodic charities, all states are there to help those in need.

An earlier poster mentioned food banks, I agree with him over the years I have spent thousands buying food from some local wholesale club and donating it to the food bank.

To me this means much more than to handout free cash. But then I never asked for anything from anyone. I worked to pay for college, I work to support my family.

The extras go to local needs. I am no way trying to be a smart ass, but with to numerous agencies willing to help immediately, why come to a website like this hoping to cash in?

You also mention a 9 month old, where to the child's other parent. Your parents?
