I have emailed both of my Senators and Rand Paul as well. I simply asked them to vote no on this legislation. I further explained that I don't believe prohibitive or controlling legislation has never stopped or corrected any problems in the past and I don't think this will solve crime or violence now. I also feel that this legislation is simply taking a Constitutional Right and turns it into a Government controlled "privilege". That was all I said. I don't believe this fear based type of legislation ever solves anything. It builds up the black market and makes law abiding citizens gut through red tape. I tried to do my part... I am also on the mailing of a Progressive group (they're good on privacy stuff, bad on this) and got their mailing urging me to call my Senators and support the Manchin-Toomey proposal. So I called them and very simply opposed it instead. Their phones were not flooded, I got thru to both. The secretaries did not seem overwhelmed with calls. There is little public support for this bad legislation, so your call opposing it could make a difference! |
