Yes, this is it. I avoid the cities so I honestly don't know what some of you are talking about. Down here, most people have this nervous feeling like the other shoe is going to drop. We know what is going on. You guys should leave your sheep-infested areas, I feel bad for you.

The whole world is completely desensitized... we see it on TV, in the movies, on the news.... cannibals, rapists, murderers, thieves, terrorists...

We are not surprised to see anything anymore...

The only way it truly affects people now is if it happens directly to them...

I blame technology and mass media... not for the crimes, those have existed for hundreds of years... I blame them on the desensitization of people...

You see explosions and people getting killed everyday on TV Shows and in Movies...

Think back to the Challenger explosion.... 7 Astronauts were killed... the whole country was in shock, crying.... everyone talked about it.... everyone knew their were 7 Astronauts, there was a teacher on it, etc. Fast forward to Columbia in 2003... I bet you stop your average American on the street they wouldn't even know that it blew up... definitely no one knows how many Astronauts were killed...

The scary part for me is what will it be like 20 years from now... Seems like it can't get much lower than now; I know I am wrong though...

I think that most of the uneasiness, that I see anyway, is the sense that people know the economy is living on borowwed (literally) time. Yes, the DJ is near record highs, NASDAQ is also coming right along but if anything seems untethered to reality it is THAT.

Just about everyone I know is struggling economically in some way and yet. . . .

It would not shock me at all if one day I woke up (PDT) and heard the market dropped 500 pts before the computers interrupted trading, markets close for 3 days and people sell after market - - I would be surprised if that didn't happen in the next year.

I said in passing to a store clerk I usually talk to "Did you hear about boston?" he said real quietly "yep" and nothing more. Just went completely silent and rang me up and that was it.
