I heard a quote from a a nurse or, can't remember who, but someone official this morning that the dead brothers was so full of gunshot wounds he was barely recognizable.

There is a helpful video on page 1 of this thread that shows the angle of the cuts, the cutting of the muscle, rib spreading and eventual heart massage. It is a procedure done from the 5th rib.

First of all
The "orange things" hanging out of his chest are called angiocaths. Its a procedure we do to patients in the prehospital setting when a pt has air or blood in their lungs. called a NEEDLE DOCOMPRESSION

ONCE A NEEDLE DOCOMPRESSION is done by the paramedics in the field pt is transported to the hospital where a
THORACOTOMY MUST BE PREFORMED BY THE TRAUMA SURGEON.

NOW. The tear on his left side is where the trauma docs did a thoracotomy. HOWEVER this looks like it was preformed by residents as it is sloppy and to far towards the medial aspect of his chest. A thoracotomy is done by raising the arm of the pt over their head and 2-3 inch incision (just enough for us to get our fingers into the wound) is made under the armpit about 3 ribs down. Then the tube is inserted into the pleural cavity to drain blood and incision is closed around the tube.

HOWEVER I believe this was done closer to the center of the chest so that physicians could access his heart as well.
It is likely he had bleeding around hi heart as well so in this case a paracardiocentesis could be preformed (though I have never seen it done this way- usually a 30 cc needle is directly inserted into the heart through the ribs and chest) also the incision could've been done here so that manual stimulation could be hone to the heart.

(FOR THE IDIOT WHO SHOWED EVERYONE A PIC OF WHERE THE HEART IS LOCATED in effort to make us all seem like idiots)- YOU DONT NEED ACCESS DIRECTLY ABOVE THE HEART IN ORDER TO ACCESS THE HEART.


I am a critical care flight medic and trauma specialist.
They actively tried to save this man. I can look at the pic and see EXACTLY what they did in order to save his life...and can certainly say THEY DID TRY.


The only thing that concerns me is there was no evidence he was intubated which is the first thing done in EVERY life threatening situation.

Paramedics MUST SECURE AIRWAY FIRST
THEN they do the other life saving measures after.

Yes the tube could've been pulled out however bc he is considered an "ACTIVE CRIME SCENE" - yes his body is. An autopsy must be preformed and NO ONE is allowed to REMOVE ANYTHING from his body...including the intubation tube. So something is funny to me about this pic.

Anyway now you all know what you are looking at!
