JohnC User ID: 19603600 United States 04/22/2013 03:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I definitely can't believe Bush won Ohio in 04. That was a head scratcher. I can't remember all the details but I know there was some kind of cover up about the results. I also think a bigger problem might be unintentional errors with the system. The people working the site where I voted last election were not computer literate. They had no idea how to run these machines. And being in one of the more contested states I wonder if there shouldn't be better trained staff. |

FatalW1shes User ID: 18009481 United States 04/22/2013 03:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've maintained this philosophy for a while..... Voters do not determine elections, counters do. And as long as the money is flowing in a certain direction, those counters will keep counting until their guy wins. There is no way in hell there will ever be an honest election. It's always about the money. The sooner people realize that, the sooner they can come to terms. |

Quoting: Quasar As a few have asked for receipts the answer is No otherwise 90% of the public would consider the gift as defective and attempt a return. You have earned this therefore you must learn to live with it. Just keep watching tv american idol and dancing with stars and I am certain you will not know the difference... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 30264574 United Kingdom 04/22/2013 04:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Even if voting is done the the old fashioned way it can't be that hard to just switch the box full of genuine votes with one you have prepared earlier. In places of low turnout you could just suppliment the ballot box with votes. That is the great thing about anonymous ballots its just an 'X' on paper. i think there is always a time when a ballot box will be in transit to where the votes will be counted. So that would be the best time to do it i reckon. The media play the most important role though. They practically lead you by the hand telling you who is going to win. They tell you what the important issues are and frame the whole narrative of the election beforehand and talk the whole time like it is your opinion lol They tell you which people each candidate appeals to, what their support base is and where all their votes are going to come from. The candidates just need to turn up at the speaking engagements and read the speech to the audience of party devotees. The media provides all the 'reaction' and assessment of what it all means etc and its all weaved into the ongoing framework. How people will vote can be easily manipulated most of the time and the media and politicians certaintly know how to do that! The scariest thought is how little interference with votes might actually be needed. If it is, as long as any interence follows the established narrative then nothing appears amiss. Even if it doesn't they just need to spin it like 'he/she connected with a this group or that group of voters' or just make a point of saying how you can't always predict how people vote. You could even rig a huge landslide whether you sold it to the public beforehand or not. You just sensationalise what it means for the country and talk up the future and all that crap. |

There is no federal agency with regulatory authority or oversight of the US voting machine industry. 3. The vice-president of Diebold and the president of ES&S are brothers. 4. The chairman and CEO of Diebold is a major Bush campaign organizer and donor who wrote in 2003 that he was "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year." 5. 35% of ES&S is owned by Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, who became Senator based on votes counted by ES&S machines. 6. Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, a long-time friend of the Bush family, was caught lying about his ownership of ES&S by the Senate Ethics Committee. 7. Senator Chuck Hagel was on a short list of George W. Bush's vice- presidential candidates. 8. ES&S is the largest voting machine manufacturer in the US and counts almost 60% of all US votes. 9. Diebold's new touch screen voting machines have no paper trail of any votes. In other words, there is no way to verify that the data coming out of the machine is the same as what was legitimately put in by voters. 10. Diebold also makes ATMs, checkout scanners, and ticket machines, all of which log each transaction and can generate a paper trail. 11. Diebold is based in Ohio. 12. Diebold employs 5 convicted felons as developers. These are the people who write the voting machine computer code. 13. Diebold's Senior Vice-President, Jeff Dean, was convicted of 23 counts of felony theft in the first degree. 14. Diebold Senior Vice-President Jeff Dean was convicted of planting back doors in his software and using a "high degree of sophistication" to evade detection over a period of 2 years. 15. None of the international election observers were allowed in the polls in Ohio. 16. California banned the use of Diebold machines because the security was so bad. Despite Diebold's claims that the audit logs could not be hacked, a chimpanzee was able to do it! (See the movie at [link to blackboxvoting.org] 17. 30% of all US votes are carried out on unverifiable touch screen voting machines with no paper trail. 18. Bush's Help America Vote Act of 2002 has as its goal to replace all machines with the new electronic touch screen systems with no paper trail. 19. All -- not some -- but all the voting machine errors detected and reported went in favor of Bush or Republican candidates. 20. Major statistical voting oddities (odds on the order of 250 million to 1!) -- again always favoring Bush -- have been mathematically demonstrated by experts. Such amazing odds, the equivalent of statistical miracles these were. Was it God? or was it Diebold...? |
