If this was true, then none of our guy's in Iraq or Afghanistan would survive an IED and end up come home with amputated limbs. They would all "bleed out", before help could get to them.
Sometimes the heat from the explosion cauterizes the wounded tissue, partly or fully.

Besides that, what they teach you as an EMT in school, is not what you see in real life, strange things occur in the field.

Here is the "Double Amputee" up and about, smiling and completely OK with the fact that he just lost both of his legs.

I have many associates that have lost limbs during the recent Middle East conflicts and this is B.S. There is no way in hell he would already be cruising around in a wheel chair. Needs to have many more months of physical therapy and time to figure out what the hell just happened to his life.
