All eyes are now on South Korea to see if it will carry out its threat of "grave measures" against North Korea for rejecting Seoul's ultimatum.

With both sides now on war-footing and with diplomacy dead, it will be interesting to see the next step either side might take.

It very well could be.

It really depends on what their objectives are.

If their objective is to genuinely fight and win a full-scale war against ROK and U.S forces, they - all going well for them - potentially have the entire country of South Korea to gain (its territory, ports, workforce, industrial complex, etc). It's unlikely they would win such a war.

If their objective is a limited war which inflicts heavy damage on Seoul and U.S bases in the area then they might have a propaganda/PR victory to gain, that is if they're able to do this and sue for peace following the aggression (this is also unlikely in my opinion).

If their objective is to start a war in which China (and possibly Russia) become involved, they would create a massive conflict in the region that pulverizes U.S bases in Guam, South Korea and Japan while forcing the U.S into a protracted war that may destroy the global economy (think of what Seoul and Tokyo being decimated would do to the global economy). In this situation, Kim Jong-un would go down in North Korean history as the leader who had the balls to take on the "Imperialists" militarily and deal a fatal blow to global Capitalism at the same time.

The third scenario unfortunately seems the most likely. Start a war, inflict massive damage on two great financial capitals and force the U.S into a situation where its economy is destroyed without a single bomb falling on Wall St.
