That's what communism is. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16865721 So if you propose anything at all that could fix the problem, like drug testing EBT recipients, it will get attacked vehemently. The mentally healthy individual strives to eliminate 100% of welfare in society. That is the ultimate goal. Everyone should provide for themselves in one form or another. But the zio-commie sicko liberals want to not only sustain welfare subsidies but also to enable slackers by expanding the program. Fortunately, their plans are doomed to failure. Those recipients (be it Black/hispanic/white trash) are breeding at record rates-those they will soon be the ones that politicians pander too. As a middle class white guy with no kids because there too expensive- my voice will become muted I say within 10 years if not sooner. |

My daughter's boyfriend's mother works full-time and pays the bills but, she gets food stamp assistance because her income isn't enough. My daughter's boyfriend just turned 16 a couple of months ago and was all gung-ho about getting a job, a car, saving for college, and planning his future. He has a great work ethic and works odds and ends for us. He was told, if he gets a job or car his mom will lose all assistance, leaving all his income to support his family instead of planning for his future. He feels trapped. We're going to help him out, but just think how many kids ages 15-18 are trapped in that situation. The majority won't work because of it, which gives them lots of free time to do stupid shit like, get pregnant and end up on the system. Quoting: Melrox is it b/c they would consider the car part of the families net-worth? The whole point of the school lunch program is to get at least one decent meal a day in an impoverished child so he or she can have a chance at focusing on school. Those of you who support this - you repulse me. You want to take a poor, helpless child who is already lacking in any comfort and pile more shame and hardship on them? Really? I certainly hope none of you profess to be Christians, because you have completely shut God out of your hearts. What a testament to the extent Satan has this country in his grips. Unbelievable! |

These are KIDS. No, you don't make a damn child work for his lunch! How insane! Why, because his parents are low income? So, what is this really? Sounds like a jab at the poor. What will follow this? All poor parents are mandated to report to the school admin building to work for the state? I need to get to work on my star ship. This place is BOGUS. |

Those who are going to get free or reduced cost lunches are most likely going to be ones that are raised with no work ethic, this might help with that. Naturally the Libs are going to fight this tooth and nail b/c it causes "inequities!" Here in NC we finally passed a law that said people who get welfare/foodstamps have to pass a drug test-sounds like common sense right? For some reason it was not an easy sell. People of a certain "persuasion" need to wake up and realize who the minority is going to be in this country. The people who are only having 1-2 kids b/c it's not affordable to have more will see their demographics dwindle, thus losing any hope of having a voice when it comes to lawmaking. Sorry for that. Goodmorning everyone--I'll step off the soapbox so someone else can get on. Don't get off - preach! I agree my friend. In the days not so golden or so long ago school kids actually worked instead of growing obese playing video games. Kids had to gather firewood for the pot belly stove at many rural schools. Quoting: R3ckless Driver 24817147 welfare make a lazy society. defacto. I was a product of a white welfare parent, in 3rd grade I remember walking to school with my free lunch forms and reading that my mothers yearly income was $9,800 and she was raising 3 kids. (this was in 1983) My 2 older sisters have a great work ethic and we've all worked jobs since we were 11.(starting with paper routes) When my dad died, my mom was left with nothing but a HS Education. So she worked as a cashier while going to school at night for an AS in business. We got full gov. assistance (welfare, foodstamps, heap.) But as soon as she could afford it we went off all those programs-even if she was still eligible for it. Im sure there are alot of families today that are in the same boat that we were in and there are black, white, Hispanic parents that do have the same drive and pride that my mom did. Unfortunately, for every one of those-there are 5 that just mooch of the taxpayer. that mayve been then OP....this is now. and we've become an entitlement society that is not just a burden to john Q taxpayer but milking the mother tit dry. The difference is that your mom was not proud of being on public assistance and as soon as she could pay her own way, she did. That's the way it's supposed to work. Attitudes toward these programs have shifted in the past 20 years. Now it's like a badge of honor...the more they can milk the system the prouder they are of themselves. I don't know where you get your delusions, laser brain. |

Yes, absolutely, it would be socially devastating, whyever would they not make ALL the kids work for their lunch, if instilling a work ethic is so important? Doesn't that apply equally to everyone, that you have to work for what you get? Terrible message to send. We were on free lunch program at school for a while when my mother was divorced, this in a wealthy community. I am a "millennial", but I came up during the end of the era of children doing school chores, school corporal punishment, etc. I must say, I think it was very useful and should make a comeback. It could help the school and also help teach the kids about responsibility and pride. However, if the school administration and lawmakers want to enforce such a policy as the one suggested in the thread title, it must apply to ALL students, not just the one accepting reduced or free lunch. That would be a serious slight to those children on meal programs. The child has no control over his/her parent's financial situation. They are the last that should be punished in any way for it. This measure would be cruel and exclusionary. |

I imagine it would get better support if they asked for parental consent from all parents to allow all students to participate in a "work-study" program at their school.
