It's just totally ridiculous how fucked up our system is...

I had a friend who lost his job. He has a (stay at home)wife and two kids.

While he was looking for another job, he applied for food stamp assistance. They denied him because he had ~$1700 in his checking account.

When he explained that was for the rent/utilities/gas for interviews, etc., they didn't care.

Yet, they'll let any low-life, doesn't want to work, illegal idiot collect assistance using our tax money...but a temporarily out of work tax-paying American can't get jack shit for assistance.

Pisses me off to no end...

If an illegal is stuck in this country without a job and is hungry, the least we can do is give him something to eat. Gawd, people, have you no compassion for your fellow man?

Yikes! That's the boat I'm in. Homemaker and two kids. Lost job and searching for new one. Have applied for EBT. Waiting on decision process now. I'll keep you posted.

This is the case here in Texas -- you get it No questions asked. As I posted on here a few months ago, my wife's cousin came here with his wife and three kids. His mother was supposed to be the 'sponsor' and pay for them -- she signed documents with the Immigration department saying she would be liable for them.

A month after they were here -- they were on benefits. Free health care. They would only get PART TIME jobs because they did not want to lose their benefits.

NOW, less than a year here -- they have both bought brand new cars. Still on benefits. Still on free healthcare.

The asshole cousin -- he has gone back to the Philippines to run his business -- but they never reported that to the government, so they still get the check.

No, he never reported his business income in the Philippines either.

There is a line we have to draw though, and it honestly goes for anyone who is on food stamps. Compassion breeds dependence. Likely that is part of the plan of the schmucks that fester in the District of Cesspool, but if everything worked as it should, these people would be on assistance only long enough to legalize and find proper work.

Also the origin of that assistance would be local, not federal. I don't mean cities set up their own food stamp programs, but food banks, community dinners, and the like. Problems can be more readily solved locally with surgical precision than with the "FIRE EVERYTHING!" approach Federal governments usually take.

I know someone with almost the exact same story. Denied food stamps and they didn't care that the money was for bills that were due. Unfreakingbelievable.

In a perfect world compassion & helping your fellow man in need is a wonderful thing, however, there are way too many who only look to take advantage of it for it to ever work on a large scale.
