The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater. -- Frank Zappa |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 11583924 United States 04/28/2013 03:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's the dumbing down of America. There are people who have college degrees that are actually ignorant in their own fields. When corporations were lured to the south (the bible belt) these people who were poor and religious got clout. Texas is a prime example. Now that they have this clout, they're dominating over much the way politics go in this country. Before the south drew the many corporations there, people, even if they were religious, weren't so gullible and far more sensible. It's a crying shame this has happened. A few southerners are waking up, but sadly, not near enough. |

I do not know this from Europeans but U.S. ppl are addicted to this. This reminds me sometimes of Medival times and sometimes of Muzzimans. Can someone explain why the Americans like this? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 38998804 It's the way America was set up... a good example of this is the founder of the Province of Pennsylvania, William Penn left Sussex for the New World with hundreds of Sussex Quakers. So Sussex lost the bulk of a religious sect which America gained.. and when you have founding notions that are based on certain religious ideals it is going to have a impact for a long time. Here is a scary thought, Britans religious dissenters went one direction (America) and it's political dissenters the other direction (Australia) what would have happened if both groups had met on the other side of the world.. |

Here is a scary thought, Britans religious dissenters went one direction (America) and it's political dissenters the other direction (Australia) what would have happened if both groups had met on the other side of the world.. this, essentially, i think they left these shores for religious freedom not sure about australian exports in that way really, just considered them mostly as the poor unfortunates. funny though, i dont consider the bedrock of australian imported ancestry to be political stalwarts another curious thing i had not fully considered - that the uk really is devoid now of religion, in part at least due to the fleeing of the persecuted ...along with much of northern europe the american obsession with god-fearing really does seem bizarre and an anachronism and in all honestly, you cant say that a religious nation is more prone to outbreaks of peace and tolerance than a secular one |

Must be a reflection of the basic intellect of Americans. Religion appeals to the lower IQ portion of society, and when it is embraced by the intelligent it is always for financial gain and control. A 2000 year old fairytale still holds so much sway over the population of possibly the most advanced civilization on the planet...fuck! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 37159590 Bulgaria 04/29/2013 06:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Religions are form of (a quite powerful) control. They change the meaning of the word "god" to something external and not internal. Thus people are lowering their own status by definition in order to bow and worship someone or something they are told instead of realising that everyone is a god/goddess in his/her own reality. The church and politicians use this type of ideology of worship and bowing to keep the masses under control i.e. "God will punish you if you don't do this", "You'll be sent to hell if...". It's the "Plant the fear of the unknown into the mind of the people and then use it to manipulate their actions" type control. Why the world today is such an unbalanced place? Because today's abrahamic religions teach that "God" is "good" and "Satan" is evil and everyone is told that they should be more like "God" and less like "Satan". The word "satan" means merely "opponent" or "competitor" - it is the "everything else" that isn't "God". It is the other half of the duality principle and this whole thing isn't a good/evil choice at all. The ancient understanding was that you need to know and use BOTH of these "energies" or "principles" (Yin/Yan, Male/Female energy, Creative/Receptive force, the + and - on a battery if you will... etc.). So nowadays everyone tries to take the divine which is inside all of you and give it to some archetypal figure that you are told you need to worship and bow to in order not to go to "hell". Think about this for a moment... If the religious "God" says you "have to" worship him, that means he's quite jealous, right? But the religion always tells you that "God is love"? Since when jealousy and love (true love, not the one shown on tv) stopped being antonyms?! I must point out that the abrahamic religions are the only ones that have concept of good/bad (i.e. God/Devil) and rejecting half of the concept as being... well... "bad". I also don't like the word "god", because its meaning is unbelievably distorted. A better words would be "nature", "universe", "divine" etc. I'm not saying believe me, but at least start thinking about this in a bit more reasonable way... ;) |
