Here is a clip of Lotte Reiniger's work. She was a master of early animation, she cut out extremely intricate silhouette forms and shot them frame-by-frame. She's a favorite of mine, I find her work very original:

Re: Let's start an ART thread!
I just used my webcam and took photos of 4 of my sketches. They are smeared looking because my webcam sucks, but at least you get the idea. I uploaded them here.

The second sketch is my favorite, lovely! afro
 Quoting: Junkyard Lily

Thanks. It shows up the best, that's for sure.

The last one, if you could see it in person, in the shading around him, you can see a face. Heh!

Nice! I looked, but couldn't see in the photo, nice job in picking it up, Sloane! hf

From the London Nail Expo - first of it's kind in 2011.

Artist Sophie Hanson: WOWZA!!

 Quoting: Sloane

Wowza is right! I like the way the model's left hand was done, with the flowers, etc. I don't know how practical it would be in real life, but would probably come out very nice as an accent in some minimalist black and white photography...or maybe colorized, as focus in a photo. hmm

"FUCK BABYLON!" is a "flipped" painting, starting with the Iran revolts of 2009, the painting was flipped and reworked with images of the Greek protests, again flipped to paint Sierra Leone's protests, finally ending at the imagery seen here, representing a "nowhere to run, nowhere to hide" subject with the vestiges and artifact of previous victims of worldwide governmental abuses as an inescapable cave. It is a frustrating painting because of the frustrating present.

GOMxCTHULU... is soon to be flipped to start on the event at Fukushima, Japan which is now reading 20x higher rad levels than Chernobyl did, turning this towards painting documenting the fuck-ups of exploratory earth rape in light terms. With possible Fort Calhoun Nuclear reactor flooding in the US this may lead to more flips. oil on canvas 72x60

Goes to show, it's not always about amazing graphics or shooting everything that moves. It CAN just be about original atmosphere and clever puzzles.

Thank you thank you everyone :)

Cool image, I like how a lot of images, adverts etc have like visible energy in their imagery these days. Have people noticed this? I've only really noticed this myself in the last 3 or 4 years .

Are artists awakened to the fact that energy exists all around us or is it just because it looks cool and makes an image seem more alive/dynamic following a trend set by others. I guess it's a bit of both,

Re: Let's start an ART thread!
I love to visit this thread. Thanks everybody for all the awesome work. hf

Here's a link to an installation. She likes to use negative space quite a bit, too. Here's a blurb (and then the link)

"After the Celestial Axe is a sculpture with 27 mirrored surfaces that reveals a magical, multi-planar universe. As you walk through the forest, you encounter the sculpture shining mysteriously and brightly through the trees. The sculpture is comprised of a moss-covered fallen oak tree sliced up by a Celestial Axe and covered in layered frothy mirror fragments, shaped and arranged with a high degree of optical awareness and purpose. The artwork shows the aftermath of an event of incomprehensible proportions – an Axe that fell mysteriously from the skies, leaving a sparkling residue of starry formations. When seen from afar, these reflective arrangements sparkle in the sun; but when examined more closely, they reflect, refract, expand and transform the environment and the viewer. How or why the Celestial Axe fell is a part of a hidden narrative."
