My art teacher in middle school used to tell us to look at what we were drawing (model, etc) for 80% of the time, and at the paper for 20%, but i found this to be too much on the subject. I like to do about 50/50, until i have the proportions and everything correct, then i focus on aesthetics- linework, shading, etc.
Also, my art teacher had some lady come in once, she was one of the students mothers, and she had us do the upside down exercise. She explained that our brains see things differently upside down and that it would help us with accuracy.
Both were good to know.

Yeah, that's a big step. I don't mind people I know looking at my sketches but otehrwise, I'd just as soon keep it to myself. My sister would talk people out of buying one of her paintings at her art shows, lol! She couldn't stand to aprt with them. I have my work on my facebook. I dont want anybody I know to connect the real me to my glp persona. Im not sure if anybody I know lurks here, and that would just be awkward.
