I seem to remember finding the ebook and downloading it a while back. I will have to check my computer. Found it but looks like someone already provided a link to it. You're welcome. :0) |

Can't we get a nicer image by some amateur astronomer here? Banned as usual. “It is far easier to be a weakling than to be a Real Man. Were the Earth less harsh or the circumstances of life less austere, man would destroy himself before the shrine of the languid goddess. Only Real Men can with safety destroy the tangled forests and wilderness of Earth and make from them gardens, but will those who inherit the gardens be Real Men? The law decrees that they must be, or the wilderness will reclaim its own.” |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 38228296 You won't see that image with the naked eye, as they said in the video, you need a small telescope with 25 times magnification to see the rings like that. The video report was incorrect though, you don't need a small telescope, anything with 25X magnification can see the rings, that's how the camera picked it up. If you have a good pair of binoculars you can make out the rings, and a steady hand, or find something to balance the binocs on. Alot of astronomy observations are made with binoculars, and alot of high end binoculars are made specifically for that. I was out looking last night with my binocs and a astronomical spotting scope and could make out the elliptical shape as it appears, but there was a heavy haze and the seeing conditions were bad. I think I'll drag out the 5" reflector telescope tonight if conditions are good. It is a wonderful and easy thing to spot with the naked eye though. If you look at the sky enough, you can tell the difference in appearance between the stars and the planets of our solar system. The stars are more pinpoint and more shimmery, the planets are larger in appearance, you can make out that distinction with the naked eye. And it's not difficult to tell which planets just by looking. Jupiter is distinguished in that it appears more white, Mars or Saturn are distinctly orange, and at times depending on how cloudy it is on the planet, Mars can appear quite red. A quick grab for the binoculars, and you can make out the Moons of Jupiter, even in a cheap pair, and the oval shape of Saturn with rings. Venus is extremely bright and white, and Mercury orange, but being inner planets, you only see them around dusk or dawn. It's fun to learn the planets in the night sky, when you look, you can know with near certainty which ones they are! |
