No. of abortions down nationwide, says health ministryThe Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said Friday that fiscal 2011 saw the lowest number of abortions carried out in Japan since it began keeping records in 1955. According to Japanese law, all abortions carried out in the first 22 weeks of pregnancy must be reported to the local government. The ministry said on its website that 202,106 registered abortions were carried out nationwide in 2011.
