You should really read the TOS for instagram. They are a parent company of Facebook and you generally have no privacy on their when registering. Anything you upload is their position and be used however they want.

Good thing I stopped using Facebook a year ago and never been attracted to these "social" picture/video websites.

I wonder how many times a day this guy types facebook into his address bar, lol.

OP, a few years back there was an issue with Facebook using peoples images in their advertising, Facebook users World-Wide cried foul on them.

Went to court under a class-action, courts favored Facebook stating that if you upload content to Facebook, Facebook has the right to use it for anything it like within reason. (i.e. Not for sale but can be used for their own promotion.)

Right from the Get-go (Before Facebook bought them) Instagram was set up under Fair-Use, and Creative Commons.

This is why you never see Photographers that sell work using it do to this policy. This does however create an issue sometimes with people that can't be bothered to read licence agreements.

The fact of the matter is that all images uploaded to the internet very quickly become the whole worlds property and you are by far powerless to stop it.

so my dear OP i strongly suggest you learn to read your license agreements before accepting them so you can make an educated decision of whether or not you will be using a service, so if that service decides to use your images for any other perpous than freely hosting them for you, you will have no one to blame but yourself.

Unity is the great goal toward which humanity moves irresistibly. But it becomes fatal, destructive of the intelligence, the dignity, the well-being of individuals and peoples whenever it is formed without regard to liberty, either by violent means or under the authority of any theological, metaphysical, political, or even economic idea. That patriotism which tends toward unity without regard to liberty is an evil patriotism, always disastrous to the popular and real interests of the country it claims to exalt and serve. Often, without wishing to be so, it is a friend of reaction – an enemy of the revolution, i.e., the emancipation of nations and men.

and if you and your country-men feel so strongly about it you can use other services that don't encourage you to use shitty filters to make it look like you are shooting with a fuckin' Holga.

like Deviantart, Flikr, photopulse, etc.

Yeah, at the behest of companies like Google, and Facebook...

This is the worst kind of bullshit. The court case by the Writers Guild against Google is still in court too, with Google trying to claim that they, by charging people to download books, and not giving any royalty to the authors, they are just acting as a library...

But if you download and alter code from their website they will throw you under the prison...

Biggest pile of horse shit in the world...

I'm almost positive this site has the same type of terms regarding uploading pics.

I wouldn't at all be surprised, Most due. It has become industry standard.

though Fair-Use almost always applies.

What would stop sites that have these terms from taking an uploaded photo of a person that uploads one of himself and then years later put it up as an avatar for a member to choose (or weird smiley)? Your face could be the remember factor to someone elses opinions.

Kind of a creepy thought for sure.

Creepy thought that I think people should realize when they give their permission to others to do as they wish with their persona.
