I think when it comes to spiritual beliefs the easiest way to tell if something is beneficial or not is to ask if it is loving. In this case, it'd be is it loving or something you'd expect of a God supposed to be better than you are, to outcast someone simply because they love someone of the same sex and wish to be with them. If it's not, then it can't be something of God if God is supposed to be loving.

It wasn't about my spiritual beliefs. I knew then as I know now that hating people is wrong. You hate the sin. But I was vehemently anti-gay. Wouldn't even waste a second considering the alternative.

I think the more people know gay people as individuals, the more they will change their hardcore stance. It won't change how they feel about the sexual acts. Personally, I really don't get it. But I also have been told by my friends that they find heterosexual sex disgusting. Really? That shocked me. Knowing my friends the way I do, they aren't lying. Why choose such a lifestyle in such a hostile society? For them, it wasn't a choice.

Do they believe in God? Yes, absolutely. Are they torn up by the fact that Christianity doesn't accept homosexuality? Very much. Am I a good Christian if I am still kind and loving towards gay people? I think yes. Does it bother me that this is a sin which it seems is hard to simply repent and stop committing? Absolutely. It also bothers me that any of my children could turn out to be gay. I don't want that for them and would move mountains to stop it. But if one of them did, what would I do? Would I stop loving them? Would I be comfortable in a church where my child can't fit in when I know that so many other members including myself are committing sins regularly?

So many questions....very few answers.

I got one for you........how do you know what sin is? How do you know sin in the form you know it to be even exists? Did God itself directly come down and tell you that or did man?

Who is defining it? And is it loving to be taught that things that don't harm anyone else are to be seen as such?
 Quoting: ajk

How do I know what is a sin? The Bible is clear on that. The Ten Commandments outline what not to do, therefore those acts are sins. In the case of homosexuality, both the Old and New Testament have very specific and clear verses concerning this.

Lev. 18:22, "You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination."

1 Cor. 6:9-10, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

Now if I choose not to believe in the Bible, then the verses above don't matter. But I do, as a Christian. So they do matter. Did God come down and talk to me about this? No, he didn't.

Who defines sin? The Bible does. Is it fair to homosexuals? That, I think, is the question that the High Order Churches (Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox, etc) are grappling with. How should they treat the verses above plus the others in the Bible that clearly condemn homosexuality. Should they view them as outdated? Were they possibly written for a particular audience in a particular time?

Even to the most loving Christian, homosexuality is a very complicated subject. A thief when they repent, also agrees to stop stealing. An adulterer must also agree to stop poaching on another's spouse. A murderer must stop killing. But as you rightly pointed out, those are sins that negatively and directly harm someone else. Is homosexuality the same? Should the sin of homosexuality be at par with theft, murder, adultery?

I have my views of course but this is getting long.

Sorry OP ... Did you say you believe in the Bible?

Really? I thought you were supposed to believe in GOD?

Then you quote Paul, when it suits you...

What about oppressing women again, then?

Paul orders it!

Here read my posts on this thread.

Do you really believe in the BIBLE?
