Message Subject Christians, Why hate Homosexuals? Are you any different?

1. Real Christians don't hate anyone. Being Homosexual is not a sin, but engaging in the lifestyle is. It took me a long time to get to why, and here's a little bit of it -

2. Sexual sin, failing to treat the body and sex as a sacred act of marriage designed towards procreation leads, eventually, to the breakdown of the family, the bedrock of society.

That's it in a nutshell. There are a lot of anti-Catholics on here, so I'm hesitant to say this, but if you really want to explore the reasons for the Christianity's opposition to the promotion of the gay lifestyle, the writings of the Popes provide very compelling and well-constructed arguments. One is Humanae Vitae, written by Pope Paul VI in the 1960s, in which he predicted that the snowball effect of approving the use of artificial birth control would lead to a culture of death. Everything he predicted has become reality in the United States. There is also John Paul II's 'Theology of the Body' which is beautiful.

Hope that helps to answer your question. I understand how it appears that this is an issue of equality. It took me a long time to come to terms with my position - I was very pro- gay marriage. (And there are actually some 'Christian' churches that endorse gay marriage - so it's not all of them, but I believe that those Churches are not correct in their views.

Thanks. I will read up on those.

If sexual sin means having sex without the goal of procreation, boy are we all in trouble.

I would disagree with number 2

1 Corinthians 7:3-5

King James Version (KJV)

"Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband."

"The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife."

"Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency."

Well, I see your basis for disagreement, but I'd like to point out that this is in reference to sex between a man and wife and that it was written in a time when there was no artificial birth control. I think that the Church has felt it necessary to point out and emphasize the procreative element because of the introduction of artificial birth control. If you think about it, it's way of denying God - attempting to exert control over his divine plan, no? Not trusting in him to provide what is in the plan for each of his children.

The bottom line is, as far as the Catholic Church is concerned, is that anyone who is not married is called to chastity. If you happen to be gay, you may have a little bit of a different cross to bear, but we are all called to be holy and to live our lives for God in accordance with His will - not to indulge our worldly desires. Widows, single people, divorced people, priests, nuns, and gays. The Catholic church treats them all the same.

I understand what the Carholic Church is saying. This is one of the BIG issues along with celibacy of the Priesthood. I don't hear of too many Catholics having 10 kids anymore. So either they are abstaining or they are using birth control. This again is a sign of impractical positions. I really wonder if it is God given or if we somehow haven't misinterpreted things. Why would God make a rule that even married people cannot follow?

The Church, Catholic and others, have been known through history to interprete things one way and then change their minds. And always they use the Bible to justify themselves.
