"The Confederacy represents the horrible institution of slavery, and that is a direct attack on African-Americans," said Steve Montoya, a prominent civil-rights attorney in Phoenix. WTF?!?! This is the dumbest, most ignorant thing I've ever heard someone say, and these morans work in the education industry.... A confederate flag is part of America's history and should ALWAYS be remembered. Not for the slave-holders it represented, but as a part of the USA where issues against the main govt caused our entire country to divide due to State rights. |

Whitewash history. I am amazed at how much I have to teach my kids. My son just brought home a project on John D. Rockefeller and was told he was one of the greatest founders of out modern world. I had to show him a few things about how the bankers really work. |

One of the earliest examples of its use comes from 1830, when Anne Royall, one of America’s first female journalists, noted that "red-neck" was a "name bestowed upon the Presbyterians." |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 28731888 United States 05/02/2013 12:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just so you know, the word “Redneck” first appeared in the 17th century, when Scottish Covenanters, or supporters of the National Covenant, signed documents stating that Scotland desired the Presbyterian form of church government and would not accept the Church of England as its official state church. Many signed in their own blood and wore red pieces of cloth around their necks as distinctive insignia, hence the term “red neck,” which became slang for a Scottish dissenter. Many of these people fled to Ulster (Northern Ireland). And here I thought that it was given to farmers that worked in the fields and had red/ leathery necks from the sun. "History is written by the victors" -Winston Churchill |

Much better than Obugger's "Loyalty Day". Quoting: Anonymous Coward 38847279 Blacks are nothing special - just people. I wan my White History Month, White Enterprises Magazine, Miss White USA, White Entertainment Television network, White Panthers, etc. When will we get beyond the double standard? That is the real reason for the racial discrimination. Equal rights does NOT mean Special Rights! When a certain group feels entitled to special recognition for something above other races, that in itself is the definition of racism. |

"This thing really got to Marcus," Kirby said. "When you're in 11th grade, that can break you down and make you feel at the bottom rung of the whole society, where everybody is being jubilant. No kid should have to go through that. We all know the connotation of 'redneck.' " Link: [link to www.usatoday.com] No matter what, everything is racist. The Civil War, BTW, was about State's Rights over Federal Rule. The little fucker needs to put on a flannel, put on some boots, put on a beat up hat with a bent brim, get a big belt buckle, put some country music on in his car, and enjoy being a redneck for the day. This is fucking stupid. I'm sure Sharpton is on his way. |

There was no "civil war" the South wanted independence not control of the sitting government. The war was not about slavery and there is nothing offensive about a Confederate flag unless you have been told incorrectly there is. Lincoln wrote that if he could end the war without freeing a single slave he would. Odd if he was fighting to free them. |

We had a blast, I don't remember anyone who opposed this. Blacks, Mexicans, oriental, whites also. A shame people are more prejudice today than in the early 70's. |

A school has a "redneck" day, rednecks are unoffended, but blacks are grievously offended? I suppose it's a good thing they didn't try a blackface day. Free speech is never free. Well I know it wasn't you who held me down Heaven knows it wasn't you who set me free So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains And we never even know we have the key - Eagles |
