When I married my wife in Brasil, she didn't believe what I told her it was like here. All she saw was what was on TV.

10 years later, she is begging to go back now. The people are horribly cold and cruel (her words). Better to be poorer, free, and happy - than an American middle class slave.

Not everybody does it like that. I got a job got married went to school and at 27 I don't know if I want kids.

marriage and kids are for those who have given up on having fun and are looking to settle into boredom for the rest of their days.

How do you know marriage is boring? Were you ever married?

No but if living with the same person and hearing them say the same things and do the same things for the rest of your life until you die isn't boring then I don't know what is.

I did it like this:

Go to school > Join the Military > Go to school > Get married > Get a good job > Get a better job > Have kids > get divorced > Get a better job > Pay off debt > Get remarried to the perfect husband for me > Get a house > Get a better job > launch a second career/business so I can quit the first ....

We are well on our way to freedom and we are only in our 40s.

You don't have to do it 'Their Way'. You just have to make smart choices. Mostly the best choices I made were:

1. Joining the Military to gety trained in computer programming

2. Divorcing the first husband and finally marrying my match several years later

3. Turning a passion into a productive career / business that we both have agreed we will do on our own terms

4. Picking our path and actually *following it*.

That part I bolded is what's great about America.

I was born here and I envisioned South Americans and a nicer bunch but that's just stereotype in my brain.

Seriously, I was thinking this the other day. I feel like I'm a nice person who would like to have people around to be friends with and have a good time with but I stopped doing that because I found most people are just plain mean. Even strangers. In the society we live in, if you're sophisticated then you should be a smart ass, vindictive, competitive, hateful and if you are not these things then you must be stupid. What happened to our world? You can find these abusive behaviors at your local worship place, too. I think it's an American thing but I don't know.

I prefer to be only around my immediate family that shares the same beliefs on how people should be treated.

THAT´S FINE AND MOST MAY FEEL THAT WAY AT 30 OR EVEN 40 BUT KIDS AND SOMETIMES EVEN WIVES CAN HAVE ALOT TO DO WITH NOT BEING LONELY AS HELL WHEN YOUR 50 OR 60 OR MORE. KIDS ARE GREAT.IT´S HOW THEY ARE RAISED.

Haha... I did the job and wife thing. Now I am divorced, living on a beach front condo, work from home on my own business, have a luxury car and an expensive boat. I had more women in the last year that I had my entire live. My plans for the next 5 years is to buy a house cash in the Bahamas and retire early.

I'm doing the wife and kids thing with a house near the beach. I am successful financially, very in fact, but the fancy cars and boats don't quite define my happiness and I am not interested. It's the fact that I spend 20 hours each week helping others in business and life and having the opportunity to spend time with my wife and kids at any moment I please...... That to me is true happiness.

Anything can be done by being a good person, having good communication skills, having motivation and drive to succeed in work and a desire to help others.

But no... in reality I do do a lot of good for others ;). I just choose to not let it kill me in the process.

People grow and change. At least, intelligent people do. I've very much enjoyed living with my best friend, for the last decade. We are both completely different from the people we married, but in good ways. It's sure nice to have a built in partner in crime, to go on adventures with!
