Go to School > Graduate > Get a Job > Get Married > Have a Baby > Stress > Die
Go to College > Graduate > Get a Job > Buy a Home > Have a Baby > Stress > Die

This is what they want you to do, all in that order. It's the system that allows them to make to most money possible.

It's a sick world we live in. Imagine if it was way more simplified. The education system wasn't forced on us, buying a home wasn't necessarily pushed on us as the American dream and just being taught that living life stress free was our goal. I COULD ONLY IMAGINE.

Less drugs, less poverty, less war, less medication and longer life spans....

Up in the morning and off to school
the teacher is teaching the golden role.
American history and practical math
you study them hard, hoping to pass
working your fingers right down to the bone
the guy behind you won´t leave you alone.

Hail hail hail rock n roll
deliver me from the days of old
long live rock n roll
the felling of drums loud and bold
rock rock rock n roll
the felling is there body and soul

My advice is stop at the "get a job" part. Have fun, do your own thing, die.NO kids...NO wife. Ugh.

It's not the world, it's American culture.

When I married my wife in Brasil, she didn't believe what I told her it was like here. All she saw was what was on TV.

10 years later, she is begging to go back now. The people are horribly cold and cruel (her words). Better to be poorer, free, and happy - than an American middle class slave.

Re: Go to School > Graduate > Get a Job > Get Married > Have a Baby > Stress > Die
I read it like an inequality.

Going to school is greater than graduating is greater than getting a job is greater than getting married is greater than having a baby is greater than stress is greater than death.

I think that works also.

No but if living with the same person and hearing them say the same things and do the same things for the rest of your life until you die isn't boring then I don't know what is.

Re: Go to School > Graduate > Get a Job > Get Married > Have a Baby > Stress > Die
I did it like this:

Go to school > Join the Military > Go to school > Get married > Get a good job > Get a better job > Have kids > get divorced > Get a better job > Pay off debt > Get remarried to the perfect husband for me > Get a house > Get a better job > launch a second career/business so I can quit the first ....

We are well on our way to freedom and we are only in our 40s.

You don't have to do it 'Their Way'. You just have to make smart choices. Mostly the best choices I made were:

1. Joining the Military to gety trained in computer programming

2. Divorcing the first husband and finally marrying my match several years later

3. Turning a passion into a productive career / business that we both have agreed we will do on our own terms

4. Picking our path and actually *following it*.

You have choices. You can do it your way.

I was born here and I envisioned South Americans and a nicer bunch but that's just stereotype in my brain.

Seriously, I was thinking this the other day. I feel like I'm a nice person who would like to have people around to be friends with and have a good time with but I stopped doing that because I found most people are just plain mean. Even strangers. In the society we live in, if you're sophisticated then you should be a smart ass, vindictive, competitive, hateful and if you are not these things then you must be stupid. What happened to our world? You can find these abusive behaviors at your local worship place, too. I think it's an American thing but I don't know.

I prefer to be only around my immediate family that shares the same beliefs on how people should be treated.

Pick you a jumping off point and jump the hell off!

Probably most of us do need to have some sort of education and a job to support ourselves. But doesn't have to be college, and student debt. Learn a skilled trade. Join the military. Apprentice with a craftsman. Build and create your own business.

Who says you have to get married? Many people live very contented and fulfilling lives as solitary bachelors or bachelorettes!

And a whole lot of us do not want kids at all, so why the hell have them? Skip that mess!

So you can learn you a marketable skilled trade, skip the spouse and kids, earn a good living, and live pretty much stress free.

End of problem!!!

I'm doing the wife and kids thing with a house near the beach. I am successful financially, very in fact, but the fancy cars and boats don't quite define my happiness and I am not interested. It's the fact that I spend 20 hours each week helping others in business and life and having the opportunity to spend time with my wife and kids at any moment I please...... That to me is true happiness.

Anything can be done by being a good person, having good communication skills, having motivation and drive to succeed in work and a desire to help others.

People grow and change. At least, intelligent people do. I've very much enjoyed living with my best friend, for the last decade. We are both completely different from the people we married, but in good ways. It's sure nice to have a built in partner in crime, to go on adventures with!
