In China, rat being sold as lamb
I'm not sure what's worse - eating the rat or the chemical additives..

BEIJING -- Feasting on strips of mutton dropped in a simmering pot is a popular dining pastime in China, but what if the meat served is actually made of rat?

That may be on the minds of diners after the latest stomach-churning food scandal to hit China.

Authorities said that traders bought rat, fox, mink and other uninspected meats -- and after adding red coloring and other chemicals -- sold them as lamb rolls for markets in Shanghai and neighboring Jiangsu province.

Even worse, those thousands of pigs being found in the river? You know, the ones dead from contamination? Being scooped up by "entrepreneurs" for their meat and sold in the markets.

A Chinese friend in Shanghai told me there's even an iPhone app now in China to be aware of food contamination.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Libertarian, but I'm thinking that China could benefit from having an FDA or some food safety organization.

That does not surprise me in the slightest.

I have been 2 china and was advised not to eat from street vendors because you never know what you are getting, the person also said there have been cases where human flesh was found being sold in dumplings.

Im not saying it happened only repeating was was said to our tour group
how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Libertarianism only works for a moral and religious population.

China is amoral and superstitious, it can't work there.

The app can only tell you about food they already know is dodgy. I really think the documented cases are only the tip of the iceberg.

I think China recently set up a food safety organisation in the last few years, but how on earth do you make sure all their farmers are following safety procedures. China is HUGE!
