When there is a famine (lack of God's Words), people turn and "eat" each other's flesh.

Jesus said "eat my flesh".

Flesh is "bread" which represents "doctrine, teachings"

Therefore, in a "famine", people "eat" each others' "doctrine" instead of God's words.

[19] And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake [it], and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. [20] Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup [is] the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. - Luk 22:19-20 KJV

O.k. I'm not Catholic, but their church explains this.
