When there is a famine (lack of God's Words), people turn and "eat" each other's flesh.
Jesus said "eat my flesh".
Flesh is "bread" which represents "doctrine, teachings"
Therefore, in a "famine", people "eat" each others' "doctrine" instead of God's words.
