I am thinking Cicada-kabobs. I had Chinese neighbors who stir fried them in dandelion greens.

Not to stand in the way of perceived cicada doom, but when these things were "besieging" us here in the northeast 17 years ago, the worse thing about it was the noise, and the noise really wasn't that bad. You get used to it. Seriously, the gypsy moth catipillar onslaught of '82-'87 was much worse than the cicada swarms of the (roughly) the same years. Cicada just buzz.

They're kinda cool. It's nature and it's fascinating. Like the monarch's in California every year, covering the trees in awesome orange then taking flight.

Maybe there won't be so many. At least here in Raleigh, it seems that every little stand of woods is ruthlessly plowed over and turned into a Strip Mall with either a CVS/Walgreens, a cleaners, a Chinese take out joint, a nail saloon and a cell phone store.

These insects pose absolutely no threat to humans. They've spent 17 years underground and the first thing they will in encounter is a bunch of ignorant, meaningless humans trying to irradicate something they don't understand, as usual. Thanks for the heads up, but please leave the poor creatures alone.

Well they arent harmful they are just noisy and they wont be back till about 2030 after this time.Think it lasts about a month or less so really no reason to kill them all off.

I think they mostly live on tree sap.

I'm thinking you good folks there in Cicada country should be bagging up as many of these little critters as you can.

Roast them in a roaster like we do green chili's out my way.....let them cool down and them vacuum seal them.

Great protein food for the bug-out-bag or then put them in #10 cans with O2 absorbers for long term storage.

When nature gives..........make meals out of it. LOL

The government should detonate nukes in the atmosphere after they start flying around.
