pretty much as most people won't adhere to any kind of preventative treatment.

Our bodies MUST be prepped BEFORE the virus hits us.

The amount of virus LOAD that we encounter + the rapid replication of it......if our bodies are not already in a maintenance mode it will still be overwhelmed with the virus.

Re: Pandemic Preps - Need to Know Information
10 Things You Should Know:

1. Pandemic influenza is different from avian influenza.
Avian influenza refers to a large group of different influenza viruses that primarily affect birds. On rare occasions, these bird viruses adapt the ability to infect humans. At that point, it's no longer a bird virus, but a human influenza virus. An influenza pandemic happens when a new virus subtype emerges which has not previously circulated in humans (therefore people generally have no immunity to it). The avian virus H5N1 is such a case. It might ultimately adapt into a strain that is contagious among humans.

2. Influenza pandemics are recurring events.
Influenza pandemics are somewhat rare but they do happen from time to time. Three pandemics occurred in the last century: the great "Spanish influenza" in 1918
and lesser pandemics in 1957 and 1968.

Quoting: AKObserver

I'd like to add that the deadly influenza viruses are from the avian strains. This is because they are typically far removed from humans, and much harder to transmit successfully to humans. Thus, when one does transmit to humans, it becomes utterly devastating. This happened in 1918. The virus had not circulated at all in humans before, and nobody had an immunity. The lucky few who were relatively unharmed had mutations to resist the strain. However, many people who had the same amino acid sequence as the virus were gonners, no matter the preparation. That being said, there are a few things to do to prepare, even if you are an unlucky bunch. The number one thing to remember though is most fungi, viruses, and bacteria cannot survive in a basic pH.
Quoting: Zedakah

Good post PH is so important, most are venturing into the sodium flouride alkaline realm. I take one teaspoon of concentrated lemon juice daily and have been healthy for a long while. Coloidal silver honestly has gotten me over streph throat, sinus infections, you name it. It works. Salt lamps are awesome for energy and maintenance! Peace all!

Human Infections with Novel Influenza A (H7N9) Viruses
Summary and Background
As of April 4, 2013, Chinese public health officials have reported 14 cases of human infection with a novel avian influenza A (H7N9) virus from four different provinces in China. All patients were hospitalized with severe respiratory illness, and six persons have died. These are the first human infections identified with an avian influenza A (H7N9) virus infection. Six cases are from Shanghai, one is from Anhui Province, four are from Jiangsu Province, and three are from Zhejiang Province. Thirteen cases are in adults aged 27 through 87 years, and one case is in a child aged 4 years; all cases had illness onset from February 19 through March 31, 2013. No person-to-person transmission or epidemiologic link between any of the cases has been identified. We are aware of reports of possible sources of infection but these have not been confirmed. We are investigating and will provide that information when it is available.

Preliminary functional data of the isolated viruses from the first 3 cases suggest that they are likely susceptible to neuraminidase inhibitors. Investigations by Chinese public health officials are ongoing.

These cases are a reminder that novel A influenza viruses can infect and cause severe respiratory illness in humans. Novel influenza A viruses are influenza viruses that are different from currently circulating human influenza A virus subtypes and include influenza viruses from predominantly avian and swine origin. In recent years, human infections with highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H5N1) virus in several Asian countries and Egypt, highly pathogenic avian influenza A (H7N3) virus in Mexico, and variant influenza A (H3N2)v viruses in the United States have been reported

[link to www.cdc.gov]

[link to www.who.int]

[link to emergency.cdc.gov]

The clinical presentation of human infection with avian influenza A viruses varies considerably--from mild illness, including conjunctivitis, fever, and cough, to severe illness, including fulminant pneumonia leading to death in cases of H5N1 and in these recent cases of H7N9 virus infections. To date there has been no evidence of person-to-person transmission of influenza A (H7N9) viruses.

At this time, no cases of human infection with avian influenza A (H7N9) viruses have been detected in the United States. Rapid detection and characterization of novel influenza viruses remain a critical component of national efforts to prevent further cases, evaluate clinical illness associated with them, and assess any ability for these viruses to spread among humans. As a result, clinicians are reminded to consider influenza as a possible diagnosis when evaluating patients with acute respiratory illnesses, including pneumonia, even outside of the typical influenza season.

Clinicians should consider the possibility of novel influenza A (H7N9) virus infection in persons with respiratory illness and an appropriate travel or exposure history. Although the majority of novel influenza A (H7N9) cases have resulted in severe respiratory illness in adults, infection with this virus may cause mild illness in some and may cause illness in children as well. When performing influenza diagnostic testing in patients with respiratory illness for whom an etiology has not been confirmed, clinicians may identify human cases of avian influenza A virus infection or new cases of variant influenza in the United States. Patients with novel influenza A (H7N9) virus infections should have a positive test result for influenza A virus via reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing but be unsubtypeable.

Suspected infections with novel influenza A (H7N9) viruses in the United States should be reported to CDC within 24 hours of initial detection, and state health departments should notify CDC promptly of all patients under investigation for possible novel influenza A virus infection.

Interim Recommendations for Clinicians and State and Local Health Departments
Case Investigation and Testing
Patients with illness compatible with influenza who also meet either of the exposure criteria below should be candidates for RT-PCR testing for influenza. Decisions about diagnostic testing for influenza using RT-PCR should be made using available clinical and epidemiologic information, and additional persons in whom clinicians suspect influenza A (H7N9) virus infection may also be tested.
Patients with recent travel to countries where human cases of novel influenza A (H7N9) virus infection have recently been detected, especially if there was recent direct or close contact with animals (such as wild birds, poultry, or pigs) or where influenza A (H7N9) viruses are known to be circulating in animals. Currently, China is the only country that has recently reported novel influenza A (H7N9) human cases.
Patients who have had recent contact with confirmed human cases of infection with novel influenza A (H7N9) virus.
Clinicians should obtain a nasopharyngeal swab or aspirate from these patients, place the swab or aspirate in viral transport medium, and contact their state or local health department to arrange transport and request a timely diagnosis at a state public health laboratory or CDC. For additional guidance on diagnostic testing of patients under investigation for novel influenza A (H7N9) virus infection, please see Interim Guidance for Laboratory Testing of Persons with Suspected Infection with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza A (H5N1) Virus in the United States at [link to www.cdc.gov]
If infection with influenza A (H7N9) virus is suspected based on current clinical and epidemiological screening criteria recommended by public health authorities, specimens should be collected with appropriate infection control precautions for novel virulent influenza viruses and sent to the state or local health department for testing. Viral culture should not be attempted in these cases.
All unsubtypeable influenza A virus specimens should be submitted to CDC immediately for additional diagnostic testing. At this time, confirmatory testing for avian influenza A (H7N9) will be conducted at CDC.
Commercially available rapid influenza diagnostic tests (RIDTs) may not detect avian or variant influenza A viruses in respiratory specimens. Therefore, a negative rapid influenza diagnostic test result does not exclude infection with influenza viruses. In addition, a positive test result for influenza A cannot confirm variant or avian influenza virus infection because these tests cannot distinguish between influenza A virus subtypes (they do not differentiate between human influenza A viruses and avian or variant viruses). Therefore, when RIDTs are positive for influenza A and there is concern for novel influenza A virus infection, respiratory specimens should be collected and sent for RT-PCR testing at a state public health laboratory. Clinical treatment decisions should not be made on the basis of a negative rapid influenza diagnostic test result since the test has only moderate sensitivity.
Infection Control
Clinicians should be aware of appropriate infection control guidelines for patients under investigation for infection with novel influenza A viruses. Because it has been shown to cause severe respiratory illness in cases identified so far, healthcare personnel (HCP) caring for patients under investigation for novel influenza A (H7N9) virus infection should adhere to Standard Precautions plus Droplet, Contact, and Airborne Precautions, including eye protection, until more is known about the transmission characteristics of the A (H7N9) virus.
All clusters of respiratory illness in HCP caring for patients with severe acute respiratory illness should be investigated.
Treatment
For persons hospitalized with suspected influenza, including suspected novel H7N9 virus infection, clinicians should start empiric treatment with influenza antiviral medications (oral oseltamivir or inhaled zanamivir) as soon as possible, without waiting for laboratory confirmation.
For high-risk persons (persons <5 years of age, ≥65 years of age, and those with certain underlying medical conditions) with suspected influenza of any severity , including suspected novel H7N9 virus infection, clinicians should start empiric treatment with influenza antiviral medications (oral oseltamivir or inhaled zanamivir) as soon as possible, without waiting for laboratory confirmation.
Antiviral treatment is most effective when started as soon as possible after influenza illness onset. Early initiation of treatment provides a more optimal clinical response, although treatment of moderate, severe, or progressive disease begun after 48 hours of symptoms may still provide benefit.

Re: Pandemic Preps - Need to Know Information
There has been much talk about Tamiflu and the possibility that it can curb the reproduction of the H5N1 virus. Tamiflu works by inhibiting an enzyme called neuraminidase. There are natural neuramidase inhibitors found in plants: the most widely studied is a compound called 5,7,4'-trihydroxy-8-
methoxyflavone, which is found in the herb Scutellaria (commonly called skullcap). Another neuraminidase inhibitor is the chemical resveratrol. In addition to inhibiting neuraminidase, resveratrol also sends a message to cells to stop manufacturing viruses. Resveratrol is a compound found in large amounts in red wine, grape seeds, and Japanese knotweed.

Tamiflu is alright, but in a pandemic, you need to know where the key ingredient comes from in nature.

Thankfully where I live, I am surrounded by Tamiflu in the trees. Originally, the shikimic acid comes from Chinese star anise pods (Japanese pods are poisonous). We have two star anise trees in the US, but both are poisonous (We have Illicium floridanum and Illicium parviflorum). They still smell nice, but they are very poisonous. DO NOT EAT THEM OR ANY PART OF THEM -> cause seizures, organ damage and death. However, you can buy Chinese star anise pods at most stores that sell fresh herbs, and stock up on these pods. These have a concentration of about 7% shikimic acid, and are used for Tamiflu (and sometimes chai tea).

However, like tamiflu, there may be a time when Chinese star anise pods are no longer agailable. Thankfully, the trees that contain shikimic acid are plentiful in the Southeast U.S. Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua) and pine needles contain the shikimic acid. Coincidentally, native americans brewed teas with sweetgum seeds to stave off fevers and illnesses. Pine needle tea was also very common, as that is also a source of vitamin C. (Although there are chemicals in pine needles that are harmful, so you would only want to drink around 1 cup of pine needle tea a day to not overdose on turpentine).

Anyway, depending on the pine tree you can get 1-3% concentration of shikimic acid, and around 3% shikimic acid from sweetgum seeds. Remember, the tiny black seeds are in the green sweetgum capsules...not the brown capsules you find on the ground. Additionally, you want to use fertile sweetgum seeds. These are black with wings (just like a maple seed). Infertile seeds are yellow without wings (like corn kernels).

On this forum thread they were talking about your Chinese Star Anise and that the countries that readily incorporated it into their diet the flu/mortality rate was dramatically less than those that did not receive it! Great information this definitely needs to be in the kit.

AKO,

I'm sure this thread will grow like the magic beans in Jack And the Beanstalk. ha ha.

Myself? I'm not afraid of the flu, but I have taken some precautions.

1. Vitamin C. I have several bottles, and I also have the C in cough drop [ lozenges ] form. They'll come in handy if someone has a sore throat.

2. I have stocked frozen orange, limeaid, and pineapple juices. I also have bottles of water stocked just for the juices.

3. I have an assortment of herbal teas and canned and boxed soups.

4. I am a master herbalist, so I have cabinets full of dried herbs, examples: peppermint for stomach ailments, white willow bark for fever, dill for gas and bloating.

5. I do have Tylenol in case someone wants it.

6. I keep Bragg apple cider vinegar in spray bottles for wiping counters, floors, etc. Bragg is the "whole mother." Raw-unflitered acv. I can also mix a teaspoon in a glass of water to boost my immune system. Bragg is gluten free.

7. I make anti-bacterial wipes for when I go out shopping. I pour 90% alcohol on damp paper towels, fold them over and store them in a plastic bags. I wipe shopping carts, door knobs, handles, etc with the wipes. You can also use 80% vodka. That will kill bacteria as well.

What about installing UV lights to create a room that's safe from air-borne virus. Doesn't work that great in humid climates though.

Re: Pandemic Preps - Need to Know Information
Really great info in here! Will have to research the bit on pine needles.

I'd suggest anyone worried about pandemics read the book Survival of the Sickest, if you haven't already. I read it, and reread it, a few years back. Completely changed the way I look at illness. For instance, the author presented research that suggests remaining bed-bound can actually increase the aggressiveness of an infection. If the host is bed-bound, the DNA of the infection will mutate to become more aggressive; if the host is up and about, it will be milder as to replicate to more hosts.

If you were to anthropomorphise a virus, it would be clear it doesn't want its host to die. It actually wants to live in harmony with its host so it can transmit as rapidly as possible, as much as possible. 40% of human DNA is made of viruses that successfully achieved that balance. With that in mind, I try to treat any infection as if it were a cold - extremely inconvenient, pretty crappy, but nothing that can interfere with my household activities. I've found that symptoms last longer, but are much milder.

Another good read is Good Calories, Bad Calories. Some people claim it's complete and utter bullshit, but it does have a seal of approval from many [many many] counter-Pharma doctors. And yes, it focuses mainly on the endocrine system, but that's key for a healthy immune system, so I think it's worth powering through the 600-ish pages of science research.

And just a random one: dietary iron is linked to increased severity of some illnesses. It's hypothesized that iron-deficiency anemia is so common in Europeans because those with a genetic predisposition had a certain amount of protection from the Plague.

Re: Pandemic Preps - Need to Know Information

If I could make one suggestion, it would be to replace the frozen limeaid with lime juice. Most commercial lemon/limeaid is just a tiny bit of juice with mostly sugar added. I make lemon/lime aid by just using the juice/water and a bit of stevia. peace

If the juice you're using is pasteurized, there is no vitamin C. More than likely, there's none in there regardless since C breaks down so quickly once freed from its natural home.

Re: Pandemic Preps - Need to Know Information
With All that I've been unearthing lately it came to me to start a 'Pandemic Preps' Thread. Perhaps it can help and everyone can collect what could be life saving before items become unavailable.
Please 'Chime In' I know there is a wealth of knowledge in all of you! Definitely a God Wink for me to do something positive with all the info in my head and what I've been unmasking.
Right off the bat we should have Colloidal Silver, Turmeric, oregano oil, vitamin D, garlic, all good for reducing infection inflammation on and interfere with the virus' ability to reproduce. Skullcap and Resveratrol (red wine) are purported to be the natural equal to Tami-flu weaker but readily available right now. Will have to break it down per disease because some herbals will trigger the opposite effect killing one faster and that's not good!
Just thinking after reading how the Spanish Flu started in the US [link to www.flu.gov]
and finding this
There are the facts and there is the truth. Facts are often debated, because facts depend on how you
calculate them. Truth is often ignored because it is often unpopular and usually unpleasant. Press
coverage about the coming unique H1N1 influenza surge has focused thus far on the facts -- how many
people will get sick and how many will die, how many vaccine inoculations will be available and how
many shots will be needed to protect someone from this virus.
Thus far, most coverage, and the government announcements on which the coverage is based, have
ignored two unpleasant truths -- first, that it is unlikely the health care delivery system will be able to
respond to a significant flu wave and second, that the economy is likely to be severely affected by a
widespread and long-lasting flu surge.
Flu - Everyone is at Risk
"Bird flu, a human pandemic is unavoidable and will take place sooner or later", stated Dr. David
Nabarro, United Nations World Health Organization Coordinator for avian and human influenza.
He estimated as many as 150 million potential deaths worldwide. Many experts believe that could
be a conservative estimate.
According to Dr. Nabarro: "Once a flu pandemic starts, everyone will be at risk of getting pandemic
flu, because no one has natural immunity to the virus. However, certain groups may be at greater
risk of dying than others. There are strong indications that the coming bird-flu pandemic may be
similar to the influenza pandemic of 1918 and, if so, healthy adults would be most at risk of dying,
along with pregnant women and the elderly"

Re: Pandemic Preps - Need to Know Information
-Flu spreads in waves of 3-5 months w/ 3 months in between

-Self-quarantine for 90-120 days / wave

-Govt effort to supply food and water at 10% at best

-Outside dirty, inside clean; Boy in the Bubble concept

-Shelter w/ good seal

-Clear brush and undergrowth 100 feet parameter around the house

-Heat pump forced air cooling/heat to filter out virus/microbes

-Water reservoir covered, pool, tubs and barrels, then disinfected

-Any source of standing water or body of water is a contaminate. Remove birdbaths, old tires and/or fill puddles. Virus lives in water for days, influenza lives on hands 5 min.

-Neither bird feeders nor outside chickens

-Food supply, 1year/person

-Vacuum w/ bags that filter for allergens

-No eating from outside gardens, only preserved food

-Indoor sprouts, fluorescent lights for indoor growing plants vegetables

-Bleach for water disinfectant (10 drops/gallon) and medicinal wound care (½ sterile water ½ bleach)

-Hand cleaners soap and alcohol based

-Running water for washing hands, not standing water

-Face masks N-95 and goggles for outside

-No individual contact less than 8 feet (NO hand shakes etc) social distancing

-Animals inside space and same consideration

-Dogs and cats immunizations kept up (any stray dog will be shot)

-Water repellent clothing w/ hood when outside (large garbage bags)

-Toilet bowl cleaner tablets for inside standing water (tidy-bowl etc)

-No contact w/ people within 8 feet, viruses jumps 5+ ft

-If an exchange is required drop item in spot i.e. porch and leave then the receiver can pick up the item i.e. soup, firewood etc. (This was the practice during the 1918 influenza)

Re: Pandemic Preps - Need to Know Information
I also have grapefruit seed oil on hand. It also doesn't hurt to buy a case of N95 facial masks, gloves and a nebulizer to breath in the colloidal silver.

When SARS hit Toronto a while back , I had friends who were quarantined because they had visited family in the same hospital as people who were there with SARS. It was a pain in the ass just for them to get groceries. Be prepared now.

With H7N9 and the new SARS like flu that is going on, who knows what can happen.

I am trying to convince hubby to buy a Colloidal Silver making machine. We use Colloidal Silver a lot and it gets damn expensive buying it.

Remember the power grid may fail in a pandemic situation. Have a back up power supply to make more CS.
