Student tells teacher how it is!! Bravo Hippy dude

One video and you think you know all about her. Maybe it was a slow day for some reason. Maybe she was tired that day. Maybe the kid is a troll and knows that. Come on, all you people, you know one video doesn't say everything.

Or maybe this was a study hall and that's why they are snickering.

i remember the good teachers and i remember the ones who gave off the hollier than thou vibes always talking down to me, schools are in a sad state in this country we have way to many teachers who are just there for a paycheck.

Text out of context is pretext. One video doesn't a classroom environment present.

It only fails in the US and to some extent in the UK.

Public education has produced students in the top 5% (even in the US), if the school is properly staffed and students/teachers incentivized.

The world's top education in primary schooling comes almost exclusively from public schools (from Scandinavia, read the PISA results).

Too bad they are just almost exclusively outside the US.

Public education CAN and DOES work, but your financial-corporate-political-oligarchy overlords in the US want YOUR (not all) public education to fail, so that :

1) They have dumb zombies with no education

2) They can privatize the public education, deliver the same shit AND get paid to do so. Trust me, this will happen. It is a multi-trillion industry waiting to be privatized (and sucked out of any hope).

Same results, you will just stay as stupid as ever.

And if you don't like public education or can't afford private outside the US, you can always study by yourself.

There's no excuse for personal laziness and lack of taking responsibility for one's own life (sans perhaps behavioral epigenetics).

Like 2% of the teachers in Tx. belong to a union. It's not N.Y.

The teacher is sitting at her desk, hiding behind a pile of stuff.
She is not at the front of the class, interacting with the students taking charge of her class.

And what class is it? Do you know? Could it be some sort of study hall? What was going on that day? Maybe 5 mins later, they were going to some convocation. You don't know the context, and how the teacher is every day. Could be one bad day. Come on you never have a bad day?

There is truth in what he is saying. When I teach College Algebra, I show passion and I challenge the students. I make them want it .. want the answers. I introduce the concept, I work an example, then I make them do the next example. They fight with each other over the correct answer.

I make the damn class fun, and touch their hearts with algebra.

By the time I leave, I am exhausted. I have put all my energy and evrything I got into the lecture, but I have their total attention.

ok it doesnt surprise me that they hire morons as teachers.
actually teachers salaries are so low that it seems logical that whoever runs that system tries to numb young people to get more cheap, unknowledgable workforce.

This young man is the son of a teacher. He said his mother was very proud of the way he stood up. From comments made on interviews with local news stations, he was absolutely in the right. Lots of other kids from the school have the same opinion of this "teacher" and say she is horrible.

Not every teacher is bad, but there are LOTS of teachers that are only there for the paycheck. If you lived in this area, you would know what I am talking about.

Hey guys,

First, he's an 18 year old sophomore! That means he's possibly 3 years older than some of the other kids in the room. He dropped out of school and he returned. Remember this is a kid whose mother is supposedly a teacher herself.

In the Fox interview he said he had trouble with the fact that their class wasn't being given the same amount of time on a test as other classes? So his outburst, while it sounds reasonable to us, doesn't really make sense in light of what he was upset about. His passion is fun to watch, but it's also immature and apparently in this case misplaced.

I'm all for passion and dedication, but heck, I'm suspicious that teachers aren't even teaching their own lessons anymore. They are teaching what the state, or their district, or their head teacher tells them they must teach. What kind of attitude do we expect our teachers to respond with if we take away their joy in their chosen field and replace their innate enthusiasm with packets of information that their students must absorb in order to pass statewide tests? Or tests that are created for national standards?

What seems even worse to me is that this teachers personal information is now spread over the web because one of one student who was frustrated. Who'd want a job like that? She sounded tired, but she also sounded frustrated and yet she said "I respect that." Sure, it sounded passive aggressive, but what do you want the woman to do? If he had a problem with her style he could talk to the administrators and ask his parent to stump for him. Mouthing off that day at that teacher is pointless.

I'd suggest you folks wanting to pester this teacher back down. We are taking his outburst as proof that she was a "bad teacher" and that isn't cool.
