I think that the difference is the sexual abuse. As far as I know, the men in Gitmo, for all that they are harassed and even put under distress conditions (light torture, so no limbs hacked off or major long term harm that is visible externally on the physical level)they aren't regularly raped.

At least not by the guards. I don't know what the other conditions are like there, or what is encouraged or supported to break peoples will.

Another difference, now that I think about it, is that the social leadership supports one, but not the other. That means that it is within the power of even a regular person to stop the three women from being held prisoner.

That increases the attention that people will pay to that, since we do not, as a species, like to give a lot of attention to things we cannot effect.
