But if they are so big.. then they need to eat a lot.. (You didn't answer my question: What do they eat? - and please, don't tell me they have StarTrek food-replicators..)

I had to put up a lot of courage to ask the question, to APOPHIS, regarding what the MADAGASCAR's eat. Some of them eat human beings, not all of them. They prefer different parts of the human being to eat, instead of all of the human body. Unfortunately I can not tell you which parts of the human they like to eat. Remember the movie Jeepers Creepers. They don't make fiction movies that much anymore. In the movie it explains something about the Dark Aliens and the MADAGASCAR's. Both races of Aliens are into eating some form of the human body.

are we talking 'cattle mutilation'-type delicacies?

OP, I am not afraid of the madagascars. Here live the HONKABUTS and they are at least twice the height of the MDAGASCARS. AND like to eat them also. Pay attention when you are alone and feel a presence behind you. Madagascars are watching you, but then, HONKABUTS are watching the Madagascars.
Now OP, tell us about your imaginary friend.
