Re: Because I'm a Poet - A Poetry Thread
I picture women and children in long blue dresses wearing practical shoes with fine natty dreads singing this in a circle while 500 feet down a dusty road the Toots and the Maytals song "Funky Kingston" is boucing off the walls of a tin shack selling guava and cold drinks.

And di bredren say, "All fruits ripe, mon."

As always, nice Octobre and a freeing juxtaposition to the dour faces of methodists singing the standard, "so the bible tells me so....."

A dot. A dash.
I saw a homeless man in a woman's dress
He was tall and bearded with spittle on his lips
It was clear from his garment he was a great emotive mess
The garment sagged about his chest but clung to bony hips

Oh what has happened to this great country
Our homeless have lost their panache of style
What will we tell the tourists when they see
Our homeless when picture posing no longer smile
A dot. A flash.

Re: Because I'm a Poet - A Poetry Thread
The wisdom that I suffered for
By lack of introspection
Laid alight my breathing
& Pulled me from a midnight
Wicked fantasy
That was quickened
By her ceremonious breathing.

There wasn't a sound
Just the up-and-down miscarriages
Spilling out, then in
Like a loom canvassed in leather
My brain filled with blood
Piston cataclysmic
Doling out the portions of my soul.

And instantly I knew her
Hot-bed action in too early an hour
Empty beer bottle smelling salts
Hurried in this sudden way
A crooning broke out
From the next room.

Re: Because I'm a Poet - A Poetry Thread
seems a good thread to drop some of my recent ponderings.

-------------------------------------------

eye of the tiger
eye of the needle
this time the flame
is burning the tweedle
dideldidee plus dideldedoo
courageous is he
who makes the leap through

-----------------------------------------

the song can be sung
in silence
the song can be sung
on the air
the song can be sung
on the lightning
that issue from each
of your hairs

I am the song that I'm singing
I am the song that I shine
I am the gold and the silver
I am the heart's love in time

I Am

-------------------------------------------

sliver bolt cutters
beget golden crowbars
the coffin lid is loosened
as the nails hit the floor
the spark of the heart ignites
the laughter within as the river of
rainbow tears flow the flooding waters of purification

------------------------------------------------

the answer lay where two trees bow
though hidden in the here and now
the dog will chew on ear of sow
while Sigel sign doth burn on brow

one dragons tooth removed from pain
leaves severed head without a brain
and while its tail doth twist and writhe
its heart receives the final gift.

you guys are all golden.

right now

I came because you called
from that voice within us all
and while I'm reading this
I am dreaming of the kiss
of life and love and tragedy
the pain the
hurt the agony
while all we say so openly
is accepted as a token fee
of kindred perpetuity

---------------edit-----------

Wow I think I read them all
and now my head is mush
I think ill turn my self to bed
as I feel a little flushed.

Re: Because I'm a Poet - A Poetry Thread
Nobody home
Am I really alone
Or is it me
Made beach be
To roam
With my own tone

These thoughts, twisting
Fate or waiting game
To be played gray
My own fray
Asking
'tis the same blame

Should one shoulder carry
Tarry ever weather stormed
Waiting soon or later
For something greater
To be born
Or freed
Faerie
Dying dreams dew adorned

Breaking dawn or lighting moonrise
'twere it wise, a child, a while played again
To fend, amend, and to befriend
Unto a witting end
Rising red
Sinking blue
To bed
It's true
Good day, adieu, few left these sighs
Perched peeking for a pen

Name, pen, of same I think I ought
Then again, silly thought
With or without
No doubt
A few who mew
Already know it too

Posted this back in May, but can't find any longer.

Fuck... what have I become? Last lament and I am the lost plane in the sun.

Now, do I say this, or do I say that? You make believe and I rhetoric. Grossly misspoken, for your pleasure. This is no longer a fine note for you.

This is my lecture.

You are my lectern. Sound off now!

Stashed away, I misspoke. I am to the gram, like Ms. Dash.

Her name was grace
and within her space
I found a sacred resting place
her gentle arms shielding from harm
as others burn beside her
buried now
beneath the stones
she lives on the horizon
and in the clouds I see her
stand
may her husbands child revive her

Their patience ghastly thin / Presently the images erupt / Costumed in a quick demise / The mushroom cloud, it grew / Rendered in the skyway / And mingling with the mandala / A sequence of our future-past / It spelt our end

Heard You Were Returning, J

I have felt the angst of homelessness before
Scared away from my addictions
The pollen fresh upon my lips
And waiting for a honeybee to carry me
To a field of flowers yet to grow.

Careful in the vortex of love, patterned
Like a wide-striped shirt
She could very easily consume me all
So there it is, this inevitable wind
That always sustained me.

Waking up the same alone I fall asleep to
There the songbirds have their falling out
Paper cranes & sparrows
With the words I still have yet to say
& write
That just might lead me to the light -
Further on
Into the tunneled dawn
Where I can still see her smile
Brightly coaxing me along.

Re: Because I'm a Poet - A Poetry Thread
In Linville Gorge, I sat on the rocks
Of The Chimneys; a beautiful spot.
Sometimes I come here, where nature's hand
Has carved out the valley in a style so grand,
Yet callous: not like the precision of art.
Its cold-blooded beauty still moves the heart;
For nature creates, yet also rends
In a silent cycle that never ends.
I come to escape the grit and the noise.
Society's cares, its material toys.
A suffocating ether settles down
From dingy skyscrapers at the center of town:
The highlands of our world, more perfect than these,
And yet less so, and here I find ease.
And over the mountains, Behemoth grins
From his sooty lair where the pavement begins.

Re: Because I'm a Poet - A Poetry Thread
Man is not eternal. Eternal nature
Weaves her web; man's stature
Allows participation in her plan.
Yet we know that every man
Must someday die by nature's hand.
He hardly understands. This is his lot:
Nature lives forever, man does not.
Man, not by nature eternal
Weaves his webs, and plots infernal
Designs, thwarting nature at every turn.
He poisons the earth, and forests burn.
The earth is sacred, but we never learn.
Realize if you would profit from life's journey:
Man's eternity is to be a part of eternity.

LSD-25

Lysergic Acid Diethylamide,
Ah; that one's mysteries I have oft plied!
I tried it...let me see...at twenty-five
But since that time its allure has declined.

That time at dawn by the lake's sandy side
The White spots swimming around in the sky
Were merely leukocytes within my eyes:
You really, by its grace, can look inside!

Re: Because I'm a Poet - A Poetry Thread
in the wooden man's clearing i sit
face to the east, face to the east
the sun so bright through my eye lids
rainbow orbs rest on my lashes
taking their flights and flashes of real life fancy
as i open mine eyes to see the light

i'm supposed to do ? what with his wood
give it away? burn it? stack it?
build a house? turn it? jack it off and split it?
spit on it? make coffins out of it?
or maybe a fence? - sure line of defence
unless the axes start swinging
sooooo... i don't know
what to do with his wood?
should i leave it there to rot?
carve initials in it?
sand it down and plank it? stain it?
let the rain and snow fall down on it?
can i kick it?
can i stick it...never mind...
never mind...i shall simply do in kind
i'll rhyme and let the wood pile do it's own thing
there in the abandoned faerie ring
where the magic once was held
before our tree was finally felled.
