Mutant dandelions Bartlett IL
Came across these strange deformed dandelions with thick stems and multiple flower heads per stem in a baseball field. Never seen anything like this and cant help but think whether this is a common phenomenon or environmental (Fukushima, pesticides, etc). I remember as a kid always picking dandelions and popping the flower heads off and through the hundreds I'm sure I have picked I never remember any strange looking ones. Been seeing many other forum and youtube vids about similar plant anomalies across the country. Anyone else seeing this?

Found one of those in our garden the other day. It was like a Siamese dandelion with a giant double stem and flowers growing out of the flowers.

Thanks OP, a good heads-up.

Especially number four of your pictures.

What causes it? The Sun, Fukushima, Monsanto or something else.

What it causes, I do not know. I do know it is NOT NORMAL.

We've been killing the more mutated plants before they turn to seed and spread. It's probably pointless in the long run, but no one in the house will eat mutant veggies anyway.

I've never seen anything like that. I googled mutated dandelions and there is a lot of this being reported.

I found this interesting blog with information on what is called fasciated dandelions.

The comments to the blog are interesting as well and lead to a youtube video of someone following these mutations.

Mutated 5 leaf clovers are out there too. Supposed to be 6, 7 and other multiples also. Its not just environmental factors that cause these though. If you believe in any type of evolution, you would have to believe that these plants can evolve too.

Thanks for the link, looks like based on the post they found their mutant dandelion friend a few years before Fukushima, so maybe other factors are involved. Although the numbers I am seeing throughout the field and in neighbors yards make it seem this is a lot less rare than it may have been in the past.

Re: Mutant dandelions Bartlett IL
I think it's a disease called aster yellows. It spreads easily. Every time I think I've got it knocked out in my flower beds, it raises its ugly head.

The only way to get rid of it is to dig your plants up and burn them. I have to take out several plants this spring that got infected from some nearby coneflowers.

Dandelions are definitely a host for this pest.

I have been growing vegetables in our garden for about 5 years now, and the only mutant plants I ever seen was the corn I tried to grow. I just figured some type of disease got them, but have not seen any other strange anomalies since these dandelions started popping up. Where state are you in Loophole?

Yep, saw a bunch like this last year. Never seen any like it before and I've been eating dandelions for 20 years. Growing next to a road and near where they sprayed roundup.
Super thick stems in clusters rather than single stems too. Pretty strange.

I'm far away *points at flag*.
We've had a ton of funny looking fruits and veg. Ever since Fuku no one will eat the things. I'm not sure if they've increased in number or if we're just noticing it more.
