A Vaccine for Lyme Disease?

A vaccine for Lyme disease could be on the way, following a successful phase 1/2 clinical trial, researchers from the Stony Brook University School of Medicine and Brookhaven National Laboratory reported in the online journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases.

In the trial, the vaccine was well tolerated by 300 people, who received three primary immunizations and one booster shot. Participants demonstrated only mild adverse reactions to the vaccine. No vaccine-related serious health events occurred.

They just can't wait to pump another vaccine into us.

The risk far outweighs any benefit as the risk will vary from child to child.

Re: A Vaccine for Lyme Disease?
Well, on the other hand... Lyme's almost killed my husband. He went through two years of hell which included numerous trips to an infectious disease specialist and treatments which were nearly as bad as the Lyme's. He aged ten years in appearance in those two years. Surgery, ports w/IV antibiotics... He's caught it three times now. It's getting fxxxing ridiculous. I'm sure in his case, a vaccination would be preferable. He's getting mighty tired of shampooing with our dog's flea and tick shampoo (which is probably just as bad for him as a vaccination).

I, on the other hand, am slightly allergic to bug bites. It's a real bother to get a fire ant bite or a mosquito bite as they swell up and blister. But, when a tick starts to bite, that itching and swelling lets me find and remove them right away, which provides some safety as a tick normally needs to be attached for at least a day before transmitting the disease. There would be no point in my having a vaccination.

You see, it's all relative.

The best vaccine is cover as much of your body as possible and then cover yourself with 100% deet. That is the good shit that eats paint.
