Relative velocity is significantly decreased when suspended in the air compared to when you are grounded.

As such, relative motion is not the same when comparing the Earth's alleged spin affect on a grounded object and one that can sustain its suspension in the air.

In essence, the suspended object is not being spun by the ground, and as such, SHOULD start to spin in the viewpoint of grounded objects.
