You are missing important link, country that defeated Mongol empire and pushed them away from Europe. Lithuania was the last of ancient 3000year old Sarmatian or Scythian empire which fought against tyranny coming from all sides. Battle was near Smolensk 1239 lead by Erdvilas (or Edivydas). Legend of saint knight or Mercurius coming to aid from abroad is still alive in that area. 1240 battle for Brest, where Lithuanians won. Numerous cities supported Lithuanian cause as religious and personal freedom was part of the ancient culture. I'm not talking about later events, or treachery of 1260 that is extremely relevant even today. Teutonic order through papal bull and Mongol empire fighting on the same side, French king Louis IX asking Mongols for help against Saracens, etc. History is much more complicated. Mongol empire was a formidable foe not only in battle, but also in politics. Mongol army was fighting battles all the time through superior numbers, with massive arrow attacks and maneuvering. They were taking local population and forcing them to fight for their cause. Mongols were avoiding battles where they did not have vastly overpowering superiority. When they were engaged into hand to hand standoff, it was considered extremely hard battle for them. They were avoiding big losses. |

In fact the Mongols owned China and ruled it for a long long time. Genghis Khan's son Ogodei is recognized as the founder of the Yuan Dynasty in China. Genghis Khan , born 1162. Great wall of China started as early as the 7th century BC. It was NOT built to keep the attacks of Genghis Khan and his warriors, but dates back much earlier to almost 14 centuries prior. Nomadic attacks from all directions. The walls never kept them away though. It was a not an effective defense, and the ancient Chinese would have been better off researching the attack methods and lifestyle of the Mongols. What we think of as a Knight Suit of Armor is more properly called Full Plate Armor. It is a full-body covering, made of shaped steel plates, commonly using some sort of leather and/or chain mail backing to facilitate flexible joints. Such a suit is incredibly heavy - most wearers of such armor would have to be literally lifted into the saddle of their horse by a small crane, and only the largest and strongest horses could be used. A Full Plate Armor suit could employ steel up to several millimeters thick in places, and typically weighed at least 150lbs (70kg). Needless to say, movement in such a heavy suit was very limited - the wearer could not effectively walk, and thus, should they be unhorsed, was immobilized. [link to wiki.answers.com] So you could say it weighed anywhere around a 100 pounds. Thats like having another person sit behind you on the horse. Some claims need a reality check. Society of that time had a vast majority of farmers and peasants. Metal had a big price. Peasants in feudalistic countries were living like "slaves" and usually couldn't afford a sword, were going out with a spear, spiked club, axe or another easily made weapon that needs less metal. Metal armor is out of the question. Nobility with their servants never had the numbers to deal with the threat. That's the simple reason for downfall of numerous nations. Free farmers, craftsmen usually had good weapons, some light metal armor types, and only more wealthy ones could afford full plate metal armor. They had something to protect and did that without hesitation. A bit more reality, light armor against arrows (one arrow has a battle tip). Yep. Christianity didn't take off and become an official religion because people all over the planet started experiencing spiritual raptures and spiritual breakthroughs via the image or story of Jesus Christ. Christianity was enforced. Manipulated. Scripted. Enforced again. The Mongols diet ranges from horse placenta, to lice. They literally would eat anything! Quoting: Mongols Stink 6469286 The Mongols had a small variety of foods. They ate dogs, wolves, fox, horse, goat, sheep, lice, horse placenta, lice, mouse, rat, game, cheeses, milks, or when driven by necessity, the would even eat human flesh. Every year, in mid fall, the Mongols froze, yes I said froze meats! They actually knew how to freeze something! They would bury meat, like mutton in the deep cold ground, where it would freeze, and stay good for the winter. They stunk because of their awful eating habits, and because they didn’t bathe. They liked this because the enemy would vomit because of their stink, giving them a combat advantage. The Mongols also had a delicacy, an alcoholic beverage made of horse milk. [link to www.theancientmongols.ewebsite.com] The Mongols were rough as they lived in an area where trees and water was in low availability round the year. But they were not the sick people you make them out to be. Genghis Khan himself spread sick propaganda about the Mongols because this was war-time strategy. He spread the info that the Mongols were cannibals etc. A lot of people today in the Western world still carry around those morbid propaganda. You need to spend some time to re-learn the true history and nature of the Mongols. I didn't make them out to be anything, website I cut and pasted from did, it is all true, and documented cannibals, by other than Genghis Khan, in fact I didn't know he did this, did know they Stunk, googled Mongols Stink, got many sites, copied one. |

During the Mongolian Empire, people did not believe in washing their clothes, or themselves. They refrained from doing this because it was their traditional belief that by washing, they would pollute the water and anger the dragons that controlled the water cycle. Therefore, clothes were often not changed until they fell off or fell apart, except for holidays when specialized robes were worn. Because of this, the smell of the outfit was seen as an important aspect of the wearer. For example, if the Great Khan were to give his previously worn clothing (with his smell on it) to a loyal subject, it would be considered a great honor to have not only the clothing, but the smell as well.
