Or alternatively, the mayans did not predict anything special for 2012, those that are still around tell us (except for a few types who tried to make a buck out of all the attention). Actually the archeological data said nothing special would happen, that the mayans had predictions of perfectly normal every day life AFTER the end of their calendar, as the calendar just restarts and that's it, and the whole 2012 thing is westernized doom sensationalism in order to sell products and books (said books starting around the end of 1960 according to wikipedia)

The Maya were a people that watched physical phenomena in the sky. Their calender, which was probably inherited from the Olmecs, is a time marker.

Then end of 2012 was just a mile marker so to speak. The changes have started and will continue to accelerate until we hit the next bakhtun.

Lol, do you remember any occasion in which the golden age/kingdom of god was installed? If such a thing is to happen we don't exactly know how the proccess would be. To me it does not seem like something that would come abruptly. Ok, maybe there will be one event that would mark the shift, but we don't know for sure if that would be necessarily on the day the calendar ended.

Maybe something started happening on the 12/21, or whatever the day it was.

On a side note, we entered the chinese zodiac year of the serpent on the new moon february 10th, the day the pope announced his resignment.
It is said on the chinese culture that somethings that start happening on the dragon year (2012) culminate on the year of the serpent.
